Car: 1987 IROC-Z
Engine: Carbed 355
Transmission: TH-350
Rear shocks?

i am trying to remove my rear shocks. well when ever i turn the bolt on the top the shock just spins. i put vice grips around the shock but it still spun around. any tricks to getting it off?

Did you try soaking the nuts several times with WD-40 (or similar)?

Mine came off real easy. You could try grinding a flat spot on the shock so the vice-grips would grab better.

I am having this same problem anyone know how to do this, i was reading somehwere about a spring compressor but i dont see whut that would do ?? PLZ help i need it bad and quick

there isn't two cuts in the very tip of the shaft for like a 6mm wrench? Air tools and lub are your best friends.

I did the rear shocks on my 89 T/A a couple of months ago....
The top of the shock has 2 bolts so you will need 2 wrench's one on the bottom bolt and loosen the top bolt with the other one after I got the top one off I used the vise grips to hold the center rod of the shock (mine was flat on the top inch of the rod).
Mine came off easy.

If a shock gives me too much trouble like that, I grab a 1/4" drill bit and a drill, and it cuts through the nut pretty quickly. New shocks come with a new nut, so there is no need to keep the nut intact.

lol yea thats pretty funny!!!!
I see the top 2 nuts, there on there pretty good and its a crappy spot to work in, i wish i had air tools !!
