changing steering box
im gonna get a ws6 steering box, how hard is it to remove install steering boxes? How much time should i set aside and anything special i should know first?
It's pretty easy and straightforward. You'll need a puller to remove the centerlink from the Pitman arm (or a different puller to remove the Pitman arm from the steering box if you're doing it that way). Using a fork to remove them will damage parts, and you don't want that since you're reusing them, not replacing them. You should also use line wrenches or in a pinch open-end wrenches, never a crescent wrench on the lines or you'll have a good chance of rounding off fittings. Basically, it's just one screw (to get the reinforcement bar out of the way), three large bolts on the box, two fluid lines, one bolt on the steering shaft, and one on the centerlink and you're done.
I did it in three hours because I also painted the box before I put it in, so set aside about that much.
