Swaping backing plates on 9 bolt

How do you do it? I thought that you could unbolt them at first. Then I was reading, and I think someone said that you have to take the axles out. Is this true? If I do this, will I need to change the bearings if they are still good or just the seals?

Thanks

Ben

Also, what all will I need to make the parking brake work between an 87 and 89 9 bolt setup?

It is a direct swap. You will need the '89 disc brake parking brake cables.

Yes, but do I have to remove the axles? If so do I have to replace the bearings when I do? Oh, and will the 89 rear cables attach properly to the old front one or does that need replaced also?

Thanks

1) Yes you do have to remove the axles. 2)You do not need to replace the bearings unless you want to. 3)Yes the 13 year old rear cables will attach to the front ones without modification.

Ok, I was reading through another topic and someone else said something about having to change everything up to the lever or something. I dont remember exactly what they said. Ok, so let me get this right. I need the rear cables for the new style calipers but I can use the same kind of front cable or do I have to change it too? Also, are the spots on the pbr calipers where the cables hook to part of the caliper or will I have to get some kind of levers like kind of like how the gm ones do?

Thanks for the help

What stuff do you have so far for this conversion?

The rear caliper parking brake set up comese complete on some calipers. On other calipers it does not come with ANY parking brake mechanism. During one of my many pointless conversations with the counterman (counter person) I was told that "all I have to do is reuse my old parking brake assy". I said i don't have one to reuse,etc.............!

If you don't have anything yet. I might be able to help you out with whatever you need. email me with needs.

Thanx,ANDYZ

I dont have anything yet. I am talking to a couple of people about stuff but dont know how that will work out. I just got a 3.45 9 bolt that I am considering converting before I put it in my car if I can find the stuff for a decent price. I am just trying to figure out what I will need to do this. I will email you when I get home, but if you read this, yes, I might be interested if you had some of the stuff or knew where I could get it.
