Would this be a good setup?
Would this be a good setup?
I just purchased an 86 camaro. The suspension is all stock.I am almost sure none of the bushing have been replaced.
I was looking at PST's suspension kit.I was going to rebuild the front first.Using their kit.I was not sure on what kind of struts.I was also going to put new brakes all the way around using stock components.
For the rear I am eventually going to go with a 4-link/9 inch setup. But until then I was going to replace all the bushings there to.Not sure on what kind of shocks.
I was going to get either jegs or summit subframe connectors.
I will be using this car for drag racing. Not backroad blasting.I was wondering if the PST kit would be anygood. Also are their Front struts made that promote weight transfer.Like 90/10 on something like.I remember reading something in car craft where they put some drag racing struts and shocks on a fox body mustang.
Any help would be great

A cost effective way to start would be the Lakewood Drag struts and shocks ($39 ea. Jegs) and Moroso Trick front springs (drag only; $120 pr. Jegs). For the front suspension rebuild I would go with the stock replacement rubber kit from PST to keep it loose, along with a good adjustable torque arm for pinion angle control and a set of adj. lower control arms. That should get you goin' in the right direction.

Just how much money would you like to spend?
You can get a complete tubular front end from www.paracing.net It can eliminate those rubber bushings by using rod ends.
Lakewood 90/10 struts are good but you can spend more money for better drag shocks and struts like Koni SPA1.
Buy aftermarket lower control arms and relocation brackets. A good adjustable torque arm and a good panhard bar. All can be purchased at www.spohn.net
Make sure the subframe connectors you buy are weld-in type.
A 4-link would be nice but that means back halving the car. Just how much do you intend on investing?

Tell me about it. I don't even want to total up all the reciepts for the race car. As it sits, it's worth over $20,000. Blowing up 2 big blocks last year means I've spent way more than that already.
I'm hoping to keep my repair expensise down this year but that's also what I thought last year.

I guess this car is going to be strip only. There is no way I can afford to pay insurance on the thing.1800 every 6 months.I know U are thinking and U think U can afoord to build a racecar.I am not expecting this car to come togother in a couple of weeks.I know it may take years.
But I still want to do it.
As far as money right now I am going to leave the suspension pretty much stock.Just freshen the stock compontents up and make it hook up better.
So rubber bushings would be better.Does PST have a rebuild kit for the rear end to.I was planning on leave all the control arms in the stock.(I think they are called control arms)For now.
I plan on putting a the battery in the trunk and putting the drag struts and shocks on it to promote weight transfer.I am not sure how well these cars hook up.I haven't even drove mine yet.So I have no clue.
I should be picking mine up this next weekend when the guy gets a new title.
