Intake suggestion??

I am planning on doing some intake work and want to get your guys suggestion. There are two routes that I am considering and want to see if #2 is really worth the extra coin, also emissions are of a concern too.

1) Use existing tbi unit, do all the "ultimate" tbi mods and purchase that eddlebrock tbi intake, I am sure you guys know the one I am talking about.

2) Purchase that holly TBI unit, and I have heard that they also make an manifold that we can use which has 2" intake ports, which work well together.

So what has been your guys experience, and any suggestion??? Also, with the Holly TBI manifold mentioned above, is it a direct "bolt on" replacement and can it accept the EGR???

Thanks

bothy have egr ports on them. teh holley will require you to use the older style egr valve, which can be bought from any parts store. both will pass emissions testing with ease.
if you set up is stock you are better off just doing teh ultimate mods and using the edelbrock intake. they will work better with teh stock cam and heads. if you add a LT1 or similar cam they will work well too.
once you decide to add heads is when the holley tb and intake really coem into teh equation. teh holley intakle has a greater overall volume and wider power band.

Going to a nice single plane intake with an adaptor on it will give you the biggest power gains because of the added plenum volume that will be developed.

Ya I dont really have all that much done to the car as of yet, and wasnt really planning on going into a Head swap right now.

The car is currently stock with the exception of headers, cat, cat back, underdrive, wires etc. As far as the intake goes its currently all stock with the exception of an open element which I will be changing over to some sort of dual snorkel intake system once I take a look at it and figure out how to route something. I am planing on doing a cam shortly, but not sure exactly which one I am going with (LT1 maybe, but still undecided), but thats about all the mods for this summer atleast.

Does it make any sense going with the Holly unit and keeping the stock TBI unit on top of it but with the Ultimate TBI set up for now?? The reason why I say this is because if I do decide to do a head swap down the road I dont want to be stuck with the eddlebrock unit.

I'd vote for the Holley. I think that it would do great on a 350 if you ever upgrade to one where IMHO the Edel would not be as good for the larger engine.

And....the Ult TBI would do fine on there.

You're right to think ahead. I wished I would..... LOL

thanks for the suggestion regarding the holley, my only real concern regarding it is that supposidly it has 2" intake ports (or whatever you call them) So will that still work with stock Unit since I know its not that big??

Anyone have any experience with this approach??

Thanks guys!

Yes I have pretty much the same thing on mine. It's just an adapter for tbi to carb with 2" holes under the throttle body

Sorry, but I just need to clarify, so in order to use the holley TBI intake mainifold with my stock TBI unit I will have to purchase an adapter for it?

I thought the only time you needed an adapter was when you wanted to use a TBI unit with a 2 or 4 bbl intake manifold

So it is sounding to me from the string of messages below the holley is really just a 2/4 bbl intake and then you purchase the adapter to mount a throttle body unit on top of it, regardless if its the stock one or the Holley aftermarket unit with the larger 2" ports.

Also, you mentioned that you have a similar set up on yours, did the intake change things much?

Thanks

Sorry if I confused you. I was refering to the size of the holes below the tbi as being similar.

No...you will not need an adapter with the Holley 300-49. Look at the TOTW and go down to the Projection intake and you will see what I mean.

I have an Edelbrock Performer Vortec for a carb that I installed a tbi adapter on that has 2" throttle bores.

I have the stock tbi unit.

Ah, thats what I thought, thanks, all is clear now. I am almost 100% sure I am going with the holley, just going to mull it over for a couple of weeks and then pull the trigger,

Thanks man

Welcome...I may buy one of those intakes when I pull my Vortec's for a larger engine and install some TPI 305 heads for my backup engine.

From experience it does pay to have one

I would from my experience go with an LT1 cam for cheap. It will help!

Good luck with your project.
