I dont want to buy a set of 305 heads right now because I plan on dropping in a 350 next summer. I am planning on porting my TBI heads and I was wondering if anyone has done this before. Can someone give me any advice that would be specific to our heads. I bought the Standard Abrasives kit so I pretty much understand how to do it but I was wondering if anyone has ported the Lo3 heads before and if they thought it was worth the trouble.

 

Read my signature, I ported mine and think they came out real good for L03 heads, I did my own machine work on them and porting work, I just gasket matched them, did some pocket porting and I took out some of the swirl area under the intake valve, with that and a small cam, headers it will rev easily to 5500RPM where it fell on it's face at about 4000RPM before. that was about 6 years ago and now I'm in the process of building a TBI injected 400+ cubic in. T-56, 12-bolt combo for it now.

 

how much of the swirl did you get rid of?

 

Not really a lot because I didn't know if there was a waterjacket close under the swirl ramp and I didn't want to grind into it if there was, but I would say I took about 1/8" of material off the ramp and a little more than that right under the valve. If I would have known for sure it was solid there I would have ground it all away and made it look like a normal valve pocket because other than the ramp they look like really good heads.

 

Yeah when I took mine off I compared them with LG4/L69/LB9 heads and world S/Rs. They looked like a very good head in comparison. I made the post here like 2 weeks ago and its gone off the third page now. I still have the pics tho.
