305TBI questions
ok... so i might be getting a new car and it will definately be a V8 this time... i want a 91ish RS, but i hear all the time 305 TBIs are dissapointingly slow. i would plan on doing headers, cat, catback, intake, open air element, an LT1 cam or maybe a lil less aggressive cam, and maybe a computer chip to this little motor... would this car still be slow for all the money put into it? anyone with similar mods minus the cam and chip, what are your quarter mile times or hp ratings?
its a daily driver and im not looking for 11 second street car, i just want solid 14s... maybe 15s if i cant go lower, opposed to the like 50 second 1/4 times of the 2.8s
any help appreciated

how much will i be getting with only headers, full exhaust, open air element, intake, a comp chip, and the LT1 cam? what kind of times would that give me?
i dont know about going into heads just yet... maybe later on. if i use bolt on sr torquer 305's, do i need to remove the motor or can i just do it with the motor in the car?
thanks

You should be able to hit high 14's with that combo. I'm doing almost the same thing. Check out my sig. I ran a 15.9 with a stock tbi 305, I had posi though too which would be a must to go any faster. If you added the torquer heads to that combo I would expect low 14's out of it. Don't forget about the free tbi mods that will be needed to. I made my AFPR before I went to the strip and advanced the timing to get more out of it.

TBI cars seem to vary a lot, maybe it has to do with the track. Cause most of us are not fortunate enough to see 15s on a stock car. I've heard the 5 speeds are a good .5 faster than the autos.
This is my first V8 car, and you know what, when I was out shopping a year and a half ago, Having a V8 car was priority 1. I'd done a LOT of reading over many years and knew what I was getting into when I bought a TBI car. At first, having that little think called TORQUE was amazing, but I never knew as far as 1/4 times how slow they actually are. But hey, that can be improved as long as you can afford to. All speed takes is $$ into the right things. I've been really happy with this car, and its been the most reliable thing I've ever owned, even with 130,500 miles on it now.
Tell ya what, driving in the snow this winter, I saw all these people in FWD cars and Jeeps in the ditch, and as I drove by them, just had to wonder what their excuse was.
