open challenge for tbi'ers

ok gang, here is the deal.
as i am sure all of you have noticed, tbi gets very little respect as far as performance goes. what i woudl like to do is have anyoen who is from the general area of or willing to drive to new jersey(central jersey, like princeton/trenton area) to try to find ways to get together over the summer so we can get more tech down on what mods will give what results in mileage, drivability, and 1/4 mile performance.
if we cna get together over teh course of the next several months and document performance gains and start going faster as a group it will help us all by having more accurate information and let others see how tbi can really perform. this is a chance for all of us to take what we know from teh theoretical world and show some real world results. we need all kinds of cars too, stock to built. we need info from anyoen who is willing to help.
drop me a PM or post it here if you are interested or have an idea of a combo we shoudl try. budget ideas are always appreciated, the less you spend going fast the cooler going that fast is

i almost forgot, the info will be posted on teh web. pics of cars, tech articles, and results will all be posted for everyoen to see.

later

Count me in! I'll drive the 5 hours to hang out for a weekend and geek-out with other gear-heads and run the 1320 a few times. I bet I could even get NTChrist to come along as well...

What do ya think Jon, wanna go down to Jersey? Think we can get all your mods on by then and have your car there, too?

Mike

even if the mods aren't done you guys are welcome to coem down. maybe we can even get a few of them done while you are here.
plans are starting with a few local guys now and things will get serious in mid june when everyoen is home from college and stuff.
anyone who has track times try to brign your slips down, especially if they list teh weather conditions so we can correct them to standard and use them as a base lien for your gains with other mods.

Well, my car is on the road and has been since January. Jon, on the other hand, is getting his parts together for an entire top-end replacement... cam, heads, intake, etc... So it'll have to be done before we come (if we try to bring his car). If not, we'll be down in mine.

Good idea, Mike, heading down to New Jersey for a day of dragging sounds great to me.
There are a few problems, tho. With my top-end replacement, I'm still going to be running the stock chip.
My setup will be,

Weiand dual plane (rev limit of 6500, as estimated by Weiand)
LT1 cam/lifters (have)
Rebuilt 416 heads
True roller timing chain
K-motion valve springs (have)
Accel coil (have)
Open element (have)

I don't think that this is the kind of setup that the stock chip would like.

I think I'm going to have to send JPrevost a PM.

Set a date, and Nitroburn and I will be there!

Arrrrrgh!

Why am I here in Las Vegas?
Get everyone out here! I need help too!!!!!

Edit:
My successes/failures have been posted during the grueling engine swap I went through too.
A lot of the information from that time period is still posted.
Code 42 again... grrr I need to get that timing right.
Or maybe it's just time for the oil to be changed, and me to check all the spark plugs again. I probably fouled them.

This is an excellent idea. We need to really get a good idea of where we can go with this injection system.

How about west coast? Any westerners wanna set up their own get together?

I will document my build up the best I can. Once I burn a chip that works pretty well I will get some track and dyno numbers.

Everyone could make this real interesting by competeing regionally. Jersey Vs. California etc. If enough folks could form local groups and compete against the other groups, there's more chance of really seeing what TBI is capable of. Just a thought at 1:45 AM

I have a long way to go then!

LOL I have a long way to go. I still need to put on the headers, gears, and suspension mods before I would even consider my car close.
Engine: Complete.
Everything else: Not Done.
I have a ways to go before I would feel more comfortable.

Another way to get tech together is to get on a chat program (AIM, MSN, ICQ, Yahoo) and discuss things there. I think JPrevost tried this before. That way people that aren't in Jersey can talk one on one with a knowledgable source about TBI and racing.

jr305 you live pretty close to me... only 30 minutes away... i am living in north phoenix... when i get some of my mods done to my car we should meet up and go to the track.. i am looking to get n2o also..

maybe i can inquire about chip burning sinc eyour local i need to learn how from someone.. i want to swap engines (lo5) and put anew cam intake and heads on the bad boy..

so we going to challenge the local areas against each other?? the new jersey area has a way bigger group then everywhere else i think.

aol name is the big funknsty5... we should put our names in our sig again...

I am at asu right now. Last final is on monday. Thursday I will be driving to Texas to do all my mods in my uncle's shop, should take me a little longer than a week.

I need to find someone that knows how to burn chips too. Although I am learning my knowlege on the subject is very limited.

A nice friendly challange between all the areas would be cool, but I think the number everyone is shooting for is camaroracer1992's 13.1.

well, here is a little piece of what combos we have to work on as a starting point. as you can see there si a good variety of mild to wild.

NJ SPEEDER: Holley 670 TB/ Holley Intake/ Edelbrock Heads(2.02/1.60 valves)/ 97 LT1 Cam/ Full Exhaust/ 4.09 Gears

JPrevost: 350HO Vortec Motor/ Performer RPM Intake/ Holley 607 TB/ Full Exhaust/ 3.73 Gears

BlackBird305: Ultimate TBI/ AFPR/ Full Exhaust/ Performer TBI Intake/ 3.73 Gears, Coming Soon: 94 LT1 Cam

PopaPork: Ultimate TBI/ Full Exhaust, Coming Soon: DIY AFPR, Ported/Polished/Gasket Matched Stock Intake, 3.42 Gears

89DropTop: Full Exhaust, Coming Soon: ????????

Dimented24x7: 300hp GoAuto Crate Motor/ Full Exhaust, Coming Soon: Holley TB

NitroBurn: Rebuilt 305 w/9.5:1/CompuCam 2031/Crane Ignition/Valve Job

RBob: 1st Gen conversion car(hey jon, i think we need to point this one out to ethan)

All of these combos will also have custom chips developed for them as well. To date Prevost has seen 102mph in the 1/4, PopaPork has gone 84mph, and BlackBird305 has gone 87mph. My old combo went a touch under 96mph.
the development we are plannign has more to do with raising trap speeds than lowering et's. these combos will improve power, how you get it to the ground is well established for thirdgens, only the gearing will show slight differences in trap speed.

any othe rcombos or future plans that need to be added just let me know.

later

Tim, you can throw a stock '89 'vert in the mix also!! It's a 305 auto, and all I have done to it is Eddelbrock TES headers, and a SLP cat-back exhaust. The best it ran was 15.8, and that was before the headers. I haven't run it since installing them. The car had 145,000 miles on it then, so I was pretty happy with that
Just let me know when & where!

ill be there with a tbi'd tpi 350 auto RS w/ some gears (dont know which yet...). the 350 is the one it seems eveyone uses (300 HP from goautocenter). I plan to have tes headers, dynomax cat, hooker cat back, and possilby a 2" tbi from holley. Im kinda in teh middle of the swap now so my car isnt going anywhere unless its with me pushing.

East Tennessee Here

I have the engine built just waiting on the garage to be built. Looks like late summer before completion.

Here's whats in the engine: 350Vortec with pocket ported heads, LT4 Hot Cam, 1.6/1 roller rockers, RPM Air Gap intake, Keith Black Hyper U Pistons(9.6/1cr), coated Headman 1 5/8" shortys, 454tb w/90lb injectors, homemade spacer/adapter and custom 3" exshaust.

This will be going in my 91RS ASAMGIB.

E-town has a limit of 3 runs but Atco doesn't have those limitations...so it's most likely going to be Atco. The cookouts will most likely either be in the Ewing area or Belle Mead (it's just North of Princeton on any map). I've got plenty of room and it's rural enough that if it's during the day there won't be a noise problem .
It's all still up in the air but I'd rather go to Atco just because e-town will be the East Coast F-body Nats. E-town being more popular is a major reason why I wouldn't want to be around there on the weekends.
