Open element question???

I just put on my open element w/ the Xtreme lid, and let me just say WOW!! I had no idea it would do that much...:hail:

One thing I am wondering though....I already have the thermac device plugged from earlier modding, but now my "service engine" light is on, which I believe is due to the fact that I left that little sensor from the original cleaner unplugged.

How do I get the other half of that thing out of the original air cleaner housing?? I'm just not very comfortable w/ that light on. And second, the drop base on my new filter has a little indention that looks as though if I punch/drill it out, that's where the new sensor should go, but it looks a little big? Any ideas on how to get that thing out?

Thanks

Unbolt the coil and move it back, mine has been this way for a long time with no problems

Is this what you're referring too? If it is, Just like MightyMouse said, just loosen the coil pack mounting nuts and pivot the coil pack away and retighten.

I just used the same open element that I had on my last project (72' Lincoln); so the only thing I did was clean the filter and that was that...maybe next I'll take off the MSD 6AL box and 750 double-pumper....

I was looking about and found one of the perforated screen style air cleaners. Has anybody used one on a tbi and are the clearance issues the same or non exsistant? Link for it just so you can see it. Click this...

those aren't good. The foam breaks up and gets in your engine.

Ahh, oh well. I just thought that it might be an easier alternative to messing about with wire and throttle linkage clearances.

The drop base has no problem clearing the linkage and I get to use a taller filter.....only beef is with the coil wire.

drop base cleared my coil fine but it messed with the throttle/TV cable bad...pushed on it and sat funny so i went and bought a cheap non drop base...much better. Why raise a drop base with a spacer ring? i got lucky and found a big drill but that was the PERFECT size for the sensor your talking about. screwed it right in. even in very hot weather the open element is still worlds better than the stock cleaner.

Flat base

Definitely go flat base. All your clearance issues will vanish. Plus you will have better airflow without that spacer on the drop base.

I didn't require a spacer; its base already has notches molded into it so it doesn't require any spacers. I had used it originally on a 750 double-pumper on a 460.
