running rich
My car (91 Firebird) is running really rich.
I was wondiner if anyone could give me ideas on what to do to fix this problem. So far I have adjusted the idle (not sure if I did everything correct on the IAC (could use more detailed information)). Before I did this I replaced distributor cap, rotor, plugs and wires. Shortly after this my thermostat guage quite working.
Can anyone help me out?
I was wondering if it might be the oxygen sensor and/or the temp sensor.
:hail:
Thanks for all of the help ahead of time. I want to fix this on my own if possible.

forgot to add
I forgot to add how the car runs.
When I ahve started it in the morning it is very hard to start. It starts and acts like it is not getting enough fuel. Since I drive only a short distance to work it does not have time to warm up. When I leave work for lunch it is the same. After work if I drive it for a while it warms up and runs decent the rest of the day (still rich though).
However I did not understand about the IAC until tonight and did some more work with the car. I am not sure however that I did everything. I will know more when I go to work in the morning (5 am.=).
I would like a detailed description of what to do with the IAC and how to look at it to figure out if I did the paper clip right.
Just remember that I am new at this and I am trying to learn as much as I can so that I can do 90% of the work on my car (especially the engine).
Thanks again.

you could try replacing the coolant temperature sensor. I cant think of any way to verify its working w/o using winaldl. I guess you could always measure the resistance across the sensor itself but i dont know what resistance coorespods to what temperature. Does the ses light come on? Also, a bad o2 could cause this, too.
