tbi intake, need help, which one??
Well I have been looking into geting an intake and get this crappy stock tbi intake off this engine... but I think I made a decision, then I change my mind, I reed a post and change my mind again. I read that idle to whatever rpm is what I want but I think idle is not bad the way it sits, obviously anything is going to help, but this engine has pleanty of low end everything, so I keep thinking something up into the 7500 rpm range is going to benifit me better but then again I keep changeing my mind. When i am in raceing mode
the engine dont shift out of gear till 6500 rpm and that seems to be best shifting. I just need some advice for what my engine is and has... see sig for that, any help is apreaciated. Thanks ahead of time. ~rsc350

Before you do anything, make sure your tach is correct. 6,500rpm seems high especially for a 350 using the stock dual plane manifold. After that, take your cam into consideration, as well as your heads.
I've been trying to find one I like as well, but I'm going to be using an LT1 cam. I'd like to use a low rise single plane with it, but I'm not sure how far the cam will take me. It's out of a '95. Any ideas on using the single plane with the LT1 cam?
Anyways, if your tach is correct, I would think you would want to go single plane. Then do a search from there. Good Luck.

Similar problem here.... I can't decide which one. I wanted to use the Holley TBI manifold... With 2" bore but according to some of the guys I will have trouble with leak, fuel lines, bracket, EGR...etch. Now I'm thinking Edelbrock TBI direct replacement. But some say's it is not good with air flow because of its smaller bore....

The Holley intake manifold is very easily put on and it fit like it was meant to be there in the first place!!!
The only thing that was NOT included was a cruise bracket. Easily fixed by cutting that part off the original bracket and welding it in place to the Holley bracket.
Other than that, everything fit fine.
I really recommend the manifold. It's up to you what you get, but I did not have any trouble with leaks, etc.....

Yeah, I checked the tach with a dwell/tach meter that I use for my derby cars and the tach is right, I guess my engine like to rev for some reason.

I like my Edelbrock Performer RPM (dual plane) manifold. I thought that 1500-6500 would be too much for a 305 with the LT1 cam, but now that I did it the car pulls strong to 6000, but Im afraid to go to 6500 on the nearly stock bottom end.
You'll need a carb -> tbi adaptor though and hood clearence becomes a problem. Thats where the Holley Pro-Jection has the advantage, its just about the same size as the stock manifold. Its defintally a good manifold, it just isnt drilled for Vortec heads so it couldnt even be a consideration for me.
Oh yea... I think 7500 is too high to be thinking about. If you really want to try it you'll need to get a good single plane like the Wieland Steath 7525. Its power band is something like 2k-7k.

The excelarator is a good intake but I am not sure it would fit under the stock hood. I have one on my other car. IT is good for around 6500-7000 RPM. It also comes with a divider plate. Just something you can install by sliding it into place. It seperates left to right.

Ok, yeah, it has to fit under the stock hood, no question about that. I just wanna know from your guys experience, perferably with 350's, what is the best rpm range to have and single or dual plane for my engine in my sig above.

I'ld say 6000-6500
If you really run that thing any higher, you risk it going bye bye. I think that 6000 should be plenty. I have 2.73 gears and at 5,500RPM shift, I still hit 2nd & third with 3,000 on the tach, which is in the main power range (2800-4800RPM).
Just something to think about.
Also that high RPM could float a valve if you don't have really really good valve springs.
