A better question would be what do we need for OUR TBIs and OUR ECMs. For some reason, the 8746 is a big turn off for the guys over at that board, and they will try to sway you to go to a 7747. Anyways, from what I've learned, forget about Winbin, as there is no .ecu file for our ecm. Without that, it makes that program useless for us. You can "hack" into the program, but if you're like me, it's over your head(and I'm a computer major in my senior year!). Most everybody with TBI seems to go with the $61 Tunercat. Try a search over at the DIY PROM board under "8746"- JPrevost has some good posts worth looking into.

I'm very close to finishing an ecu file that I like. I'm still not a fan of winbin but for being free it's a LOT better than TC in that respect. When I do finish it I hope to somehow write up a program that'll use winaldl to datalog and spit out a new bin file for you to burn and try.
The program will basically look at the BLMs and adjust the VE tables. Then it'll look at your knock counts and what area they occured to make adjustments in timing. Maybe I'll have it take out 2 degrees if there is knock and add 1 in ever cell that doesn't have any. Might take a while to adjust for a big motor but I've found that if you take the recommended Mechanical dissy settings and work it out in excel you can get a good starting point for the main SA table. This is how I finally got my car to stop backfiring through the TB every once in a while (not enough timing coming in soon enough).

WINALDL is the best method of getting the data for you or anyone else to burn the chip. Without hard data on any engine with more than the typical headers and TBI mods its just a guess as to what will make your engine run right. If Jon's WINBIN/WINALDL combination works that would be an incredible feat and take a lot of guess work out for the newbie programmer. I don't want to even count the number of chips that I have run through my ECM. Final product has been a sweet running TBI setup but a lot of work.
But I do not recommend a "custom" chip from fastchips.com or any other chips.com for modifications deeper than the valve cover unless you are going to provide them some WINALDL data. I understand not wanting to pay the $150 for the prom burner just to burn a chip for your car but the WINALDL datalogger will be a valuable tool the entire time you own your car. Not only after a modification has been done but to diagnose all kinds of sensor issues.

The good news is that Joby was nice enough to trust me with source code of winaldl. This way I can have it so everytime you stop datalogging my program is run and the new bin is all ready for a reburn (fuel all done).
Like I said, I've got a LOT of school work on my plate and our formula SAE team is looking to be national champs this year so....I'll only be able to work on this a few hours each weekend.
I'm not going to make any promisses but I think it'll be out around March.

I have money saved up for the programmer and Tunercat but i dont know which programmer to buy or which one i need

Jon hate to bother you because my school is killing me too, but did you ever finish that 8746 ecu file? Ive been checking the incoming folder and havnt seen anything. Too bad you didnt write that program in c++, I coulda given you a hand being a gay Computer Science major and all
