Injector Noise

I recently put a 350 into my car, and I'm still using the same TBI unit (with the larger injectors for the 350). But My car now seems to make some injector noise when I accelerate. Is this normal? somebody said to me because the fuel going in is at a higher pressure that you are going to hear noise more. it's a ticking sound. This christmas I hope to replace the TBI and intake with a holley or edelbrock one, will this help remedy the sounds?
The car still backfires once and a while too.. i've got to lift it when I get a chacne and make sure the knock sensor is completely plugged in, because the clip on the darn thing broke.

I have used the holley 670cfm unit with a 350 combo that I have and I would say that it works pretty well. It is a big step up over the stock unit and has quite a bit of adjustability including availability of injectors from 53pph to 85pph and a built in adj pressure reg. Very nice TBI, might be worth a shot for you. Otherwise be sure that you are using a 350 knock sensor as they are slightly different with the sensitivities than the 305 KS, and double check valve lash and ignition timing.

I have the Holley TBI in a van and the injectors make horrible noise! I found if i loosen up the wing nut on the air cleaner it goes away. I plan to drill out the hole a little and install a rubber gromet there.

That's odd that the wingnut would do that.. hrm.. Learn something different every day..
Anyway as for the holley TBI that's on my christmas wishlist, along with an edelbrock intake, long tube headers and a highflow cat.

My Injectors tick too but the only time they do that is when I'm driving, never in park or anything else. I wonder why they do that. Is there a way to make them stop cause I have a cowl hood and it's real loud.

I'm in the same boat, minus the cowl hood.. If you figure it out, let me know.. What engine do you have in you car? I see you have an ls-1 cam in it, how's that work for you?

It's a 305. The cam does a good job, running low 14's on street tires. And I can't figue out what the heck they make that noise for. It's annoying and sounds dumb. Kinda like an exhaust leak.

I too have been scouring my exhaust system for a leak.. I agree that is what it sounds like.
I've gotten the ticking to go away by timing it different, but since I put the electronic spark timing in, it has gone funny again, so I'm going to try to time it again.

I'v got a 1990 Silverado w/TBI 5.7L
I guess that is the noise they usually make during operation.

I would only notice it while doing a tune up and started my truck w/out the filter housing in place. It is a steady ticking sound of the injectors pumping fuel.

After I added a open element K&N FIPK I could hear it always if I listened for it. Especial if if you stood next to the side where the filter is, even with the the hood closed.

My truck runs fine, 5.7L - 700-R4 - got the K&N FIPK, Gibson cat-back, Stage-1 Jet Chip (getting a stage -2 soon)
MSD Ignition:6A box, blaster coil, 8.5 plug wires.
I wil definately be adding Thorley Tri-y's, and after much debate on new heads, figured TPI would be better.

The TBI is a solid workhorse (maybe not thoroughbred), I have not had to do a damn thing to the TBI unit, Maybe it's time. See if that noise goes away.

I really could also be the begining of an exhaust leak. For moths it is only a slight anoyance you may soon forget, until it turns to a full blown leak in a matter on days.

Rebuild or by new injectors, check all header bolts (exhaust flanges) for tightness.

Check the TBI Fuel injectors, you can use a volt meter and remove the leads ,set the meter to OHMs and touch one lead with one test wire and the other lead with the other test wire on one injector at a time and if the readings are between 1.0 and 2.0 your ok if they are out of that range they are fried...also if they are clicking really bad........ Replace em
