Is the ZZ4 cam to big for a 305?

I want a cam bigger than the LT1 but smaller obviously than the HOT CAM and the ZZ4 seems like a good choice. Is this cam chip friendly. I will have a custom chip burnt but I don't want it to be so radical that it takes super careful chip tuning. I want to slap on new heads (world products S/R torquer 305's) and cam (with all appropriate stuff) and plug in a new chip and bam have it all. I already have full exhaust, ultimate TBI mods, vacuum ADJ FPR, edelbrock TBI intake, MSD ignition, open air, etc, etc. I am dow to the real meat now and just want to choose wisely.

I don't see why it wouldnt be fine in there. I ran a 206/210 cam in my 305 without Ultimate mods, chip burning or AFPR. Ran fine, a little rich, but it still ran just fine. I believe JR_305 is running the same setup as you mentioned above.

No it is not chip friendly. If you don't want to get into DIY prom burning, stick with the LT1 cam, it will work real well with your vac AFPR.

regaurdless of what cam I get I am going to get a custom chip burnt to make it all run smooth. I have read in numerous places that the zz4 cam wasn't computer friendly at all. There never seems to be any other elbaoration. I do not know if them mean for a stock chip or what.

I ran my car with the stock chip for a little over a month, daily driven. The car will be able to run and get you around, it just won't run anywhere near its potential. With the stock chip you will get horrible gas mileage, it will run so rich below 2000 rpm and lean above 4000 rpm.

My car is my daily driver and it runs and drives great now. After burnning about tweenty chips it is working real good with a computer. I still have some fine tunning to do in hopes of finding a few more HP.
I refuse to believe that some one can take your specs and burn a chip and get it right with out having the car present to test and refine the chip.
When JR305 says it wont run anywhere near its potential He's not just kiding. It probably took me 10 burns just to get back to where the car ran with the LT1 cam.

If you're not willing to get into DIY prom burning then stick with the LT1 or LT4 production cam. Ether of those can be made to run fine with a vacAFPR.
