tbi ??
tbi ??
Could someone please tell me the best thermostat to install on a 305 tbi ? I noticed the gasket is starting to leak, and since I'm there , well I might as well change it. And from reading as much as possible while at work I gather this is an inexpensive mod. I'm already planning a open breather mod. What else can I do for a (cheap) mod for the time being? Also what should my rpm's be in park and in drive sitting still? I'm new to the board and new to tbi systems, so be easy on me. I'm too damn old to care though. LOL
I apreciate any input and help.
I apreciate any input and help. My TBI seems to enjoy running a 180 thermostat. I'd run a 170, but I need heat in the car this winter.
I got a list of el-cheapo mods in my sig there.
I'm working on a new RAM air intake design to help it breath better based off the TPI intake. Finally found me one off a V6, meaning its really just a camaro intake but ram air modified.

I run the AC-Delco 170* thermostat in mine for well over a year now with no complaints whatsoever. My heat works great in the winter and helps keeps temps down in the summer.
I have a 160 in my car. Did wonders for summertime cooling, but can stay a bit nipply in the car during winter. If you drive it for about two hours it gets warm enough!
the car does run just fine with this thermostat, though.

i have a 160* t-stat in mine. works great in the summer, but you will freeze your ***** off in the winter. I still keep mine in during the winter though, just put on extra clothes to stay warm.
Im running a 180 degree thermo with a hypertech fan switch now it works great. I had a 160 degree thermo in when myfan first died...man it took at least 30 min to warm up and gauge never read over 110 when driving...little to cool for me i had almost no heat.

instead of kicking the fan on at let say 230 degrees u put the switch on and it will kick the fan on at lets say 185 degrees just depends on where yo u buy one. www.jegs.com has these also so does summit and whoever else. if im wrong please correct me dont want to give wrong advice to someone.
correct man. all the switch does is run the fan. with a 160, the fan doesn't need to work much in my car unless you are in stop/go traffic in the summer. wired my fan on a toggle. if you do this, be sure to wire it correctly, as in with a relay...
for performance the lower teh temp you can keep the motor the better. it will allow you to run more base timing and create more power with less detenation. the only possible consequence of a lower temp t-stat is tht soem times the car may find littl espots in the loop that it loads up wiht fuel a little cause it is seeing a lower temp and adding more. this does not happen very often adn is usually just a sign that it is time for a tune up. i always ran 160degree stats in my car and i was always very happy wiht it.
