breather ??
has or does anyone know anything about k&n's x-tream breath-thru lid?http://store.summitracing.com/landing_index.asp?v=KNN I was wondering, since this would draw air down from the top and thru the stock tube, wouldn't this be just as good or better than an open element breather? Thanks for your opinions.

I know on my 91 Camaro the air cleaner rests against the insulation on the hood and that would inhibit the additional air flow of the K&N and would fill with insulation debris pretty quick. Your Firebird may be different.

That K&N lid will really only work if you have some sort of forced air going ontop of the lid. So if u had cowl induction, it would be a nice addition. Now as for price per hp/tq ratio for that thing, eh, K&N is always expensive. But maybe u could find one on ebay for cheap. But like I said, only worth it if u have cowl induction.
the mod would really won't work because k&n doesn't make am EXtreme lip in 15and1/2" diameter, they only go up to 14".
in essence if the lid did fit, you would have to have a cowl hood or one with a sort of forced induction to really benifit. doing a complete open element will net the best gains, just do the Ultimate TBI mods. i'm planing on doing them asap.

It is absolutly useless but it looks cool so I got it.
thats the spirit!
actually installing one on mine fixed a problem i was experiencing around 6500 Rpms... my car would seem to sputter and die out... only at high speeds 100 MPH +
turned out my crap air cleaner was too small to feed the blower... that and the paper element
I do have a cowl hood so it worked wonders for me. cant tell if it helped ET but now i can do over 110 MPH again.
