Just bought an LT4 cam

I know the LT1 cams work great in our cars but I wanted a little more. I decided that the LT4 cam may just be perfect.

Specs

Part # 12551142

Duration @ 0.050 (I/E): 203/210
Lift, (I/E): .476"/.480"
Lobe Separation: 115
RPM Range: Idle-4500

Also,

Part # 12371043
SB Timing Chain Kit, 87-Up Single Roller Design

I am thinking of using 1.5 rockers with this cam, oh and I am also going with S/R Torquer 305's and some chip tuning when this cam goes in. What do you guys think. Will this be a nice streetable setup?

Hey shifty, Just so you know the lift numbers you stated are with 1.6 rockers. With 1.5 you will basically be running the same lift #'s of an LT1 cam but with 115 LSA instead of 116. Just thought you might want to know so you wouldn't use 1.5's and get disappointed.

I am seriously considering getting the 330ho motor and installing the LT4 cam since the vortec engine isn't EGR compatible but the LT4's LSA acts as a "self EGR" function. If you check out the LT4 vettes and camaros, they don't have EGR valves.

jagone,

That is really good to know. Since this post I have decided to go with 1.6 rockers instead. I figured this cam would be a bit stronger than an LT1 yet be streetable, nice idle, and chip tuning friendly. Well I plan on keeping EGR with the new heads and everything. I don't think this cam will keep me from that, do you?

Where are you ordering the LT-4 cam from? Good luck getting it. I waited for ever for one and finally gave up. I checked recently and there was still none available from gm's wherehouse.

back to the EGR issue Shifty, I'm sure others on the board know more and can explain it better but I'll give it a try. The tighter LSA on the stock LT4 cam versus the LT1 cam, in relation to the duration numbers, deem an EGR valve unecessary. This would be the case no matter what heads you decided to use. You could still hook up an EGR valve, but it would just be redundant.
I'm all for keeping your engine as "green" as possible since I have to pass emissions, but unless you have a visual where an EGR valve is required, your engine would look cleaner without it.

I paln on keeping EGR for emmisions. We don't have to get tested now but it is only a matter of time. It is something to ponder. A custom chip can easily get rid of EGR to.
