rebuilt engine, how much HP and 1/4 mile time? please reply so i know this is worthit

Im rebuilding my 305 tbi b/c the crank is going on it. Im going to have the LT1 cam in, port and polished heads, throttle body spacer, headers, and bored 60 over. How much horspower will this give me and do you think it is worth it? I want a 350 but my parents called around and it is doubtful we can get one built up to pass emissions here. Also, will my car run ok w/o a chip if I adjust the timing and fuel pressure? and what do you think my 1/4 time will be?
thanks alot everyone, Jesse

without a chip even the 305 wont pass emmissions...it will run bad and im sure it will run rich or lean. either way it wont pass. you night see 230-250 maybe...those heads are whats killing you.

I thought you folks in Canada could apply for some kinda hot rod emissions exemption? Search for some of the other guys from your area, I'm sure they could tell you all about it.

apparently u can, but to get it you have to have an engine size that wasn't made for your car that year. So I would need a 296 or a 327 to do that.

Ca has some pretty strict emissions standards.. heck a McLaren isn't legal there under their emissions standards.

Ontario Canada in particular seems to have bought into Ca's emissions standards cuz when I tested there and tested here the numbers on the emissions limits were identical...

Gotta put my two cents in here... I did a complete rebuild on my LO3 305 and basically I really didn't go nuts (at least not yet) with a lot of aftermarket stuff. I did the following during the rebuild:

Bored .030 over
Crane PowerMax 2031 Roller cam
3-angle valve job (change the seats from 45* to 30*)
Open Element Air Filter
CraneCams Fireball HI-6S and PS-91 coil
Accell 8.8 plug wires
Base timing at 6* BTDC

I then took it to get it inspected with only 20 miles on the motor (about 45 minutes of run-time) and she passed with flying colors WITH THE STOCK CHIP!

I don't think with the mods RallySport92 wants to do to during the rebuild is gonna make him fail emissions with a stock chip. I could be wrong as heck, too.

Again, just my two cents.

Later,
Mike

I have a 350 with a ported throttle body, Crane Compucam 2030 (Hydraulic Roller) cam and a custom chip from Ed Wright at Fastchip.com. It passes smog in California as a 305, even with the aggressive timing curve in the chip. (with the stock air cleaner in place)
With the open element replacing the stock air cleaner,
it makes 317 HP at the flywheel and almost 400 ft/lbs of torque.

here is the lowdown on the emissions in ontario. Swap the engine to a displacement which was not offered in that body style and you are granted "hotrod status" which is relatively easy to pass provided it is running ok, so go with something like a 327/400 etc.

There is another little loophole is if you get your car classified as "rebuilt" on the ownership it is either exempt or has to only pass something like 1980 standards (I wouldnt go this route unless you plan on holding onto the car for a while since it may be difficult to sell with that classification on the car). I cant remember all the details regarding this way arround it, but I can find out if you want, my buddy trevis knows all about getting arround things the legit way, just drop me a PM to remind me.
