I've been having this realy weird problem with car latley(88 camaro cheack sig). Twice this last week the car has died while I was driving it.
By dead I mean one second just fine the next absolutly nothing. No run, no lights, no electricity at all. The first two times I was slowing down and turning into a driveway at night.
The third time I had just walked out of the store went to turn off my alarm and it only got about half a beap and died. All 3 times the car returned to normal after about 30-40 min. But in the mean time the car wouldn't do anything.

When it happens I've tried everything I can think of to reset whatever is causing the problem. Disconting the battery, pulling fuses, playing with buttons on the alarm, even jump starting it. It just does nothing until it decides to rejoin the living. Also the third time when it turned back on the alarm went off the same time the power returned.

Could the alarm be causing the problem? It is an Alpine alrarm "profesionaly" installed by a local shop. If it is how would I go about disconecting it? It has a starter kill so If I f*ck up the car might not start again.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds electrical. Maybe a wire is shorting out or a ground isnt grounded right. Check all the lines from the starter, battery, alterantor, and alarm.

Sounds like a heat induced electrical problem. Try checking the distribution block on the side of the radiator support and all the lines conecting to it. Don't forget to check the block ground, move it around and scrape it up to get good contact. Are you sure the battery is good? If the battery is heating up it may be screwing up inside with the terminals and such. It doesn't sound like the alarm because that would only disable the starter. It would have to pull a lot of amps to deaden the battery and not give power to the lights and other stuff. Also it would drain the battery and you wouldn't be able to start it again. That kind of short would blow up the alarm and fry all of the wiring going to it.
