recomend some 1.6 Rockers for my setup

This is what is going on this winter

LT4 production cam
S/R Torquer heads
Custom chip
New roller rockers???

I want 1.6 rockers to get the advertised specs out of the LT4 cam. Which ones work well with our cars. Do we need self aligning? I know I need a 3/8" stud roller setup. Also do I go with steel or aluminum? I do not need the best but just some good durable ones. here is what i was looking at on summit, CCA-1418-16.

Description says - Chevrolet: 1987-up 305, 350 with self aligning, 3/8 in. stud, 1.6 ratio, chromemoly, roller tip rockers

Any other suggestions. Also, I am concerened that I will not have enough valve cover clearence. Will this be an issue. Money is tight obviously for I just spent on this stuff so new valve covers are down the road. My mods are in my sig if that helps decide.

I just read this post recently... worth following...

https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=144576

The base of it is that he has some gold rocker arms and its pretty much suffering from metal fatigue, one of the symptoms the rollers are producing shavings from friction under stress.

I personally have comp cams magnum roller tip 1.6 rockers. Pretty good stuff. Stronger than my stock for sure.

Slade,

I just recently read that post as well, and that is why I am leaning towards steel. I was also looking at those magnum rockers. They are 191 bucks but I think they will work great.

Do the s r torquer heads have guide plates? If they do you dont need the self aligning rockers.

Shifty,

Depending on the money you want to spend, I would use either the Magnum 1.6 roller tip from CompCams or, for full roller, I use the Crower Stainless Steel rollers. Both are steel, are rebuildable and last longer than the aluminum ones. No metal shavings. Since they are steel they don't need to be as thick either so they'll fit under the stock valve covers. I have 8 of the Crower's if your interested in running a split set. You'll need guide plates with them since they are not self-align.

I don't know if what happened to mine was a freak occurance, but for $300 the bearings should damn well stay together.

I just bought a set of Comp Pro-Magnums. I've heard nothing but good things about these.

I decided to go with the Comp Pro-Magnums. I am so happy to hear that I will have ample clearence with these to retain the stock valve covers. Thanks guys and I will keep you posted on the install.
