Which Summit Open Air for '89 TBI IROC

Summit has a few different Open Air Cleaner selections. Can someone tell me which part# to use for my '89 IROC with TBI? It is the 305 L03.

Thanks,
Andy

any drop base open element for a 4bbl carb will work for the tbi with a 14x3 air filter

The description on the one that I am looking at is:

"Vendor: Summit Racing Equipment
Product Line: Summit Chrome Air Cleaners
Material: Steel
Finish: Chrome Plated
Height: 3 3/4 in.
Diameter: 14 in.
Air cleaners with Summit written all over them
14 in. diameter, chrome, with Summit logo, air cleaner
This Summit chrome plated steel air cleaner has a 14 in. diameter, a 3 in. open element, and a flat base. It fits carburetors with 5 1/8 in. neck."

From what I have read on 3rd gen forums here, it needs to be a 14X3 NON-drop base. I was wondering about the size of the TBI neck. Does the TBI have a 5 1\8" neck?

they say to use a drop base because it fits better. you know that spacer between the throttle body and the air cleaner assembly? well, if you get a flat base one, you just dont use that spacer. if flows better than a drop base one does, so if you think you can fit it, then go for it.

i have the flat base on my car, but nothing on mine is stock, so im not sure if it will fit a stock L03.

Thanks for the repsonses. That helps. I will go ahead and order a drop base one.

BTW, Z28 Boy, I notice you're in North Syracuse. How's the Weather up there?? I used to live in Liverpool for 27 years till I moved to the Atlanta area.

Thanks,
Andy

oh..well, you know the deal. it's been pretty crapy so far this year. it's been cold, and we've already had a lot of snow compared to past years, so it looks like this winter may be a killer. last winter almost broke a record for the LEAST snow ever, so it looks like we are going to make up for it this winter.

this summer, we almost set a record for the hottest summer on record. we had a LOT of over 90 degree days. go figure.

but hey, what do you expect...it's syracuse, where it can snow in the morning, and you can go swimming at night.

Because according to the info here, the drop base works. Is this not the case? If so, I better make a phone call.

you are right, the drop base does work......
the flat bottom is better. i would get the flat bottom. you have to remove the air filter spacer/riser, which is good.
basically get the flat bottom

i think it will be better in the long run, not gonna give you an extra 25 HP over drop base tho...

OK, got the air cleaner installed. Looks and sounds awsome. A little faster response too. But one minor problem. The air cleaner bolt is on it's last thread and barely screwed in place. I don't want to swap out the 3" element for a 2.5", so does anyone know where to get a little longer air filter bolt that is bent for the TBI, or do I have to make one?

Any input is appreciated.

Thanks,
Andy
