What converter do yall use?

I remember somewhere that someone mentioned using a different torque converter is order to shave off some time. I want to say it's an S-10 converter, but I'm not really sure.

If it is indeed a S-10 converter yall are talking about:

1.) What exactly is an S-10 converter?....Like out of the S-10 truck?...if so what year etc;

2.) Are there any issues with it or negative effects?....like worse gas milage and crappy cruising habits?

Thanks

-The Gunny

The 95+ S10 Truck 4.3L converter is a cheap way to get a 2000-2200 stall converter which is about 600 rpms more then the stock Camaro converter.

The gm converter is pn 24202310 rated at 2200 rpm stall which you should get outa it pretty easy. Its a direct bolt in. $200 + shipping from gmpartsdirect.com

Im running the B&M 2400 hole shot also a direct bolt in and I can get about 2200 off launch with it. I think it was $240 from Summit.

Are there any negative effects from going to a higher stall converter?

Do you have a holeshot or a "Tork Master"? I made a list the other night of parts to consider for this summer. I had a B&M Tork Master at the top of it. The 2400 stall costs $240.

If you do have a Holeshot, I'd like to ask anybody if they have a Tork Master, and what they think of it.

You're right, it is the torq master. I cant really tell you if Im gung-ho over it because I havnt been able to launch hard at the track, manily stalled to about 1500. It works well on the street though, cant really beat the price.

Hey guys, Ive got a converter from a 91 4cyl auto overdrive. I'm pretty sure the trans. is a 700r4. will this work in my 91 RS w/ no problems bolting up. Oh yea, is there any way to flush out all of the old fluid out of a converter?

A Torque converter will not stall up to what it says unless you change the cam in your car. so if you have a stock cam then there is no need to change the converter at all.

12" Continental built 2800 stall lock-up for $200 used from Moderator Tim Burgess. Works well on the street with a large B&M style trans cooler and fancy eprom work to keep the tcc locked unless heavy on the pedal

I have the "S-10" converter. I think it's sloppy. A buddy of mine has a B&M Holeshot 2400 and his TC feels alot tighter than mine.

i got the 2400 rpm stall form SLP and i like it alot. a bit more expensive then B&M but i think its built better, when swapping out the converter if you dont get a trans cooler done too you will fry that trans in now time, if see it done..

So do you think the B&M Holeshot would be a better choice than a Tork Master?

The "S-10" converter that you all are talking about is really a corvett converter. Actually its just the high stall converter that gm makes for the 700-r4. Go down to your local parts store and have them look up converters for a 700-r4 and you'll see 3 different kinds listed the low stall, medium stall, and high stall. The low stall was used in trucks and most tbi equiped camaro's the medium stall was used in everthing else. The high stall was used in 4.3 liter s-10's and corvetts. The s-10's got them because they had no bottom end grunt and the converter covered that up nicely. They sell for 120 at my advanced auto. As for the 2800 stall converter used on 4 cyl s-10's, they wont' work on v-8 trany's because they use a smaller input shaft. I think you could get the smaller input shaft swaped in but i'm positive you would break somthin. Sorry this is so long but i went nuts finding out all the differences.

What about a used Vigilantie converter? I can get one he wants $400.00 for it(deal or not?) It stalls at 2800 with his drag radials with a strong combo on a mini ram, guessing I may get between 2400 to 2600 with what I am planning. How does this sound for a daily driver?
Later, Mike
