your advice please (LO5)
as it says in my sig I recently bought two eninges, the 350 runs fine, but has 90,000 miles on it so I'd rather rebuild it before I mess with sticking it in the rs, besides, i'm gonna get the 86 running first, but I figured I'd ask your guys opions (NJSPEEDER, JPrevost, etc.) so I can keep an eye out for deals on parts.
I'd like some insight on the tbi with the 355 vs 383 (the roll of stroke manly)
I have also though of buying 2.02 heads (non center bolt) (what does the lo5 have anyway? 1.94? or even lower?) and a pre 86 with an egr place and an adaptor for a 454 tbi.
totally lost (with the tbi),
Vic

I can't help a whole lot with the TBI either. I have yet to tackle the ECM portion. I guess I'm intimidated.
I can tell you that the LO5 heads are 1.94/1.5 valves, BUT they're also 76 cc chambers. And to top that off, they're the swirl port style.
GM though it would be cool to put huge chunks of metal in the intake port just under the valve, and shape it like one of those tornado slides you see at the parks
It's not a bad idea for a truck engine since it helps premote swirl and VE at low RPM, but it will not help upper RPM HP at all. Keep that in mind before you spend the $$ to rebuild them.

What's the casting # on them? This is the first I've heard/seen of this. I'd be interested if they could be milled that small since I have a set that I'm putting in my '83 1/2 ton.
Thanks

the casting number is 1410219
they are definatly EFI swirlport they have the spiral ramp in the intake port
I put a sparkplug in a chamber lightly greased the deck put a clear piece of plastic over the chamber with a 1/2 in hole in it and used a graduated cylinger to fill the chamber up came out to 64 cc
the guy I got the heads from (for free with the 4 bolt 350 they came off of) had intake and exhaust valve job done bronze valve guides installed new springs and retainers as well (said he spent 300 on the work and where he got it done I belive him, nice work)
unfortunatly I can't get ahold of him to findout if he had them milled the deck hase been cleaned but I don't think and substantil milling was done
I just ordered a set of vortec heads so right now those LO5's make a nice door stop

It's either a 3 or a 1. I have the 193s. I did have the 191s but the machine shop wanted $180/ea head to work them over.
I bought the rebuilt 193s of ebay for ~$150 shipped.
I'll have to measure the stock deck thickness and see if it's doable. I called my wife and she's picking up a buret for me to check the cc's with. You've got me wondering what they are...

EVERYWHERE I've read say they're 76cc, and mine look that big.

sorry the casting number is:
14102191
then below that was:
J226
on the block they came off of was
V1028FJC
CHS144x22 <----- can't read what number the x is
I belive the FJC should identify exacly what the engine came out of
I measured them with my local machineist because I was going to use them untill I could afford Vortec heads (which UPS is bring to me as we speek) and they measured out the same 64cc as vortecs
I hope this helps

I stand corrected, and happily at that.
I just measured mine using green rubbing alcohol and a syringe.
They measured out to about 64 cc +/- 1 cc (as boogie pointed out.)
I'm happy. I may just use them on my 355 for my car until I can get some AFRs. Then I can worry about my truck.
I appologize. I guess you can't always believe what you read, including what I've written here.
