How fast with these mods?

On my other post I describe how my car is sick right now. Looking to the near future, when I fix it with your guys help, how fast do you think my car could be?

Mods:
Cat delete,turbo muffler
Advanced timing
Open air
BRAND NEW CLUTCH

Combine these with a good running RS L03,a nice cool night at the track and perfect shifting like I always do,do you think I *might* see anywhere in the 15's?

..or am I :lala: ?

high 15's

You need some more mods IMO tho if you plan to be anywhere in the low to mid 15's.

I ran 15.4 @ 88 mph with cat-back, air filter in stock housing, 160* stat, hypertech street(cheap) chip, and 3.73 gears.

SO maybe, if you get your car running well (tuned up), you should be able to hit high 15's with a good 60'

The only sure fire way to know is to do them and go to a track yourself.

Side note ..

Hey beast - which do you like better with the 5-speed, the 3.42's on the '89, or the 3.73's on the '91. What are the noticable differences between the two. How many RPM do each run at the same speed while driving on the highway.

thanks,

KZad

For drag racing the 3.73s are much better since I go through the traps in 4th at ~4800 rpm (uses all of the 4 gears).

The trannys have different raitos though. In my GTA the first gear is 2.75 and 5th was .75. So it probably does like 45 or so in 1st gear. and cruises at 80 mph at 3000 rpm.

The firebird w/ 3.73 has a 2.95 first gear and .63 (.64?) 5th gear so it cruises at 80 mph at ~2700-2800 rpm. The only thing I don't really care for is driving on the street 1st gear is so short, so I usually start out in 2nd gear or shift from 1st to 3rd when just driving around town. It probably only does ~35 mph in first at 5000rpm.

I like the GTAs gearing for highway acceleration b/c the drop from 4th to 5th just feels like a another shift, while in the other car it's a big drop from 1.0 to .63. I don't really race much on the highway though, that 4-5 shift is around 115-120 mph.

I guess that didn't really answer your question, I probably like the 3.73 geared car b/c it cruises on the highway at a lower rpm AND is better from drag racing. It also shifts a lot smoother(b/c of less abuse and less power).

I dont know but every LO3 ive ever driven in even with headers and a chip never neared 15's. Keep in mind these were all autos. the best time i've seen with a near stock LO3 was 16.4. I'm not sure but with a stick, no air filter and a good launch its quite possible. You may see 15.9, remember go when the last ember light is on dont wait for green its to late.

I say screw the lights man, just concentrate on your launch and get a good e/t. If you have the launch down, then the only way to do it is like Camaro68Vette63 said.

Check my sig. I'm running 14.7 on the stock long block and induction. I ran 16.0 @ 85, with nothing more than gears and a streetmaster chip(stock air filter, stock exhuast, etc), when I was 16 or 17 and couldn't drive. The lights have absolutely nothing to do with your ET. Having a car in decent tune is important.

I think with your setup 15s might be pushing it. It wouldn't take too much to break 'em though.
