L98 heads on my L03?!?
L98 heads on my L03?!?
Somebody localy is selling a set of L98 heads for dirt cheap. I was wondering if it would be worth it to put these on my engine. I know they have to be milled.....I just cant remember how much. Would this be worth my time and money to do? I have a LT1 cam waiting to go in too, so I would probobly do these at the same time. The heads are under $100 for the set so tell me if you think its worth my time and money....

Yes. Those are are a good bargain. When you have them milled for the 305 you can possibly have a few minor improvements made so they make more happy with the LT1 cam than stock L98's would. For 100 bucks, I wouldn;t feel the slightest bit guilty dropping another 300 - 400 dollars into those heads to make them better.
even if you jsut do a rebuild and a minor port and polish and valve job on the heads they will be much better than stock. make sure to gasket match the intake and heads to each other to really take advantage of all your air.

Tim, did you mean port match or gasket match? Word is that gasket matching is a waste of time and sometimes hurts performance. A lot of gasket companies and gaskets in general are larger than the actual port. So what happens when you gasket match you increase the cross-sectional area of the port giving the runner bad flow characteristics. Don't gasket match, port match
.
The stock L03 heads are sad. Just about anything else would be an improvement. Vortec heads are Lt1 technology for your 1st gen small block and so you'll most likely get the best low end torque from these heads. Aftermarket stuff is great for cams with lift over .480 that's my take. You might want to just do exhaust and a lt1 cam swap before you go spending time with a head swap. I don't think it's cost effective to put them on a 305 with lots of miles. You only risk opening up a can of worms and if the time is free, I know the gaskets aren't
. You could try and get a 350 short block, rebuild it and use those L98 heads while you drive with the stock L03.

The L98 heads will work the question was whether or not they'd be worth it, but yeah they'll work, but you have to think about if its worth it to do such a swap.
