4th Gen. TBI pump?

Hey all:

First I just wanna say that this forum is one of the best ones on Camaro's Ive found. And I would have asked this on the CamaroZ28 board, but that board sucks IMHO. Too many jerks and clicks...

I have a 1995 Camaro that had a 3.4 V6. I swapping in my older 5.7 350 SBC. Now, I know the motor can't handle all that fuel pressure, so I heard that I could swap a TBI fuel pump in my tank over the stock FI one. Is this true? And what model or year TBI pump would be good to buy?

The pump doesn't control the pressure. The fuel pressure regulator does.

I'm using a 255 lph Walbro fuel pump with my TBI. This pump can handle 80 psi of fuel pressure, but I'm running it at 20 psi.

We put a Holley 750 DP on an OEM TPI car. The stock fuel pressure was 43 psi (I think, somewhere around there). We have it regulated down to 4 psi. Stock pump...

LoL, well I heard that a FI pump would blow a fuel regulator's diaphram in about a minute, heard that alot. So I can just put a fuel regulator on it and go from there? It won't blow? and what should my fuel pressure be for a 350 650cfm carb set-up? Im getting a holley 'jection kit later but It will be carbed for a while. Also, what's a good/affordable regulator to use?

PS: Thanks! :hail:

Nope. So long as you use return style regulator. Mallory makes a return style regulator that can be found in Summit or Jegs. All the carb Astro guys use it, and I've helped install one on the Trans Am I mentioned.

It HAS to be a return style tho. If you try and use a 2 port regulator yes you will blow the diaphram out.

This is the one...

If you wanted to use a two port regulator, you could run it like this. This is basically how a 3 port works, it's just all internal.

Great! thanks guys. Okay on my 95' there are 3 lines. My engine is out and my electrical system temp. down. How do I tell which is the pressure line and which of them are the return lines?

BTW: I'll order that part ASAP, thx 4 th3 l1nk!

You could get under the car and see which line has the fuel filter in it. Then you could follow it up to the engine compartment.
