Timing problems

I had my distributor rebuilt and then he gave me back the car and it was running like crap. It would stall out at idle. I eventually took it back and told him the timing must be off, then he said no it cant be that and spent 30 minutes checking this other crap.

Then I told him to check the timing and he did. He said "You're right it is a little off". It was at 12* advance base timing. Isnt that A LOT off?

I had him put it to about 3-4 and now its fine, but I cant believe he said that 12 was a little off.

hey buddy 12 degrees is not that far for most motors, 12 is about as far as you should go though, so did that fix it or was it something else?

12* is VERY far off, when the base timing on a TBI is supposed to be 0* with the ESC unplugged.
