current setup. 94 non roller L05 w/ mild cam
im trying to decide if i want vortec aluminum heads or ir i want the stock vortec iron heads.
if i get a set of used iron heads im planning to get my friend to port and polish them. he also said he will match the intake, and tbi at the same time if wanted it (port and polish them as well)
my question is, will port and polish of a stock tbi intake manifold be worth it or should i go ahead and get a carb intake manifold and use the adapter instead?
o yeah i forgot ill be getting the ultimate tbi mods done right before i get the port and polish done.

i would get a lighter intake and one that is better i want the performer rpm airgap manifold. i have seen several tests with various manifolds and this one blew the rest away!!! and theres always a but... it may not fir under your hood. which is why i won't get mine untill i get the ss hood with the scoop on it!! the stock manifold is freakin heavy i would trash it!!

On a 350 with a mild cam and vortec heads that stock intake is going to be a huge restriction. I'd say definitely go with an aftermarket intake most likely a carb manifold with an adapter. I would be looking into the Performer RPM or the Weiand 7525.
thats what i was thinking, but the intake needs to be emission leagal. i really didnt want to spend a lot on the intake. i may go tpi if i find one cheap enough (i know i have to get a custom intake to fit the vortec heads)
will ported and polish open some that restriction on the stock tbi intake?

Yeah scratch that I forgot you had vortec heads when I said those intakes. You're goign to have to shell out the money and get a vortec specific intake, I'm not positive but I don't think the stock TBI manifold you have on the LO5 will even fit the vortecs even if you try to modify it.
ok i just realized that that i would have to change the intake manifold. so getting the vortec head fairly cheap is so cheap now.
instead of doing vortec heads...what are good set of heads. that are about the same price as of new vortech heads?

The tbi intakes off of 305(LO3) and the 350(LO5) are the same intake but Vortec heads require an entirely different intake; I don't believe the ports even match up.

You could go with a set of World Products Torquers. As far as porting and polishing, it will help a fair amount. Do not polish the intake side of the heads or the intake ports, if you get the walls to smooth on the intake ports the atomized fuel will bead up on the walls instead of flow right by. So gasket match the intake side and light porting but don't polish. The exhaust side however can be poilshed to glass smooth so can the combustion chamber.

Check out the Pro Lightning lineup on that site. The lightnings seem to be a popular choice.

The only aluminum heads you can get in that price range is a set of used L98 Vette heads. Add about $300.00 to the seven you already have and get a set of Edelbrock E-Tec 170's from Jegs.

well, yeah ive been looking into the prices of heads. im probally gonna get the vortecs with the new intake or l98 vettes. if i were to spend more than a grand on set of heads...i could getet my neighbors LT1/t-56 setup for 1500 instead. but then again i just did an engine swap i dont want to do another one this year
