new to tbi..need help

new to tbi..need help

ok yesterday i bought a 88 formula and it was 305tbi....the car has 135000 miles.....what might i hafta replace sensor whise and stuff.....right now at idle it kinda chugs a lil and is sorta rough.....once in a while itll do a lil cough and a lil pop will come form the intake but that is prolly just timing...once in a while when i start it, it will die.....it doesnt slowy die like chug chug chug stall....but it almost just turnes itself off.....ignition maybe?.....my dads friend said i should replace the cat and o2 sensor......think thad help?

check or replace the egr valve probably never been changed, wont hurt just help,check IAC,timing,fuel filter might need replaced to,check the coil wires plugs cap rotor ect.......

im almost 100% sure that formulas wernt tbi. they were tpi. 305 tbi is just the base v-8

Pretty much all models had the 305 TBI as an option, there were formulas that had TBI as well as Irocs.

thats what i thought b/c my v.i.n said that mines a formula and so does my insurance but its not.i thought formulas came with 305 tpi and 350 tpi

You could get lo3 irocs, lo3 formulas, l98 formulas....

You could get about any motor in any model besides the GTA they only has l98s.

GM messed up I think.

They should have made 2 maybe 3 engines tops.

You either get a slow v6 or a l98. Thats my opinion anyways.

Having 5 or 6 different motor options was kinda dumb I think.

what would the oil pressure mean...think there could be a crack in the block?

I would first check timing then maybe take off your TBI and clean it up a bit. sensor wise. get a digital ohm meter and test everything... Do a search and your find the correct readings... TPS iac, are good places to start.. couldnt hurt to change plugs and wires and cap and 02 sensor

i was jus wondering bout the oil pressure cuz i thought that the gauge was maybe just broke cuz its at zero.....lol.....yeh.....at least i only paid 700 for the car so if it needs a motor its not a big hit on me or anything
