Yeah, it is down all the way. It is the headlight switch. The little ball on the end of it. The dash will not come over it. ?

What year is your car? Mine is a 89. I had to undo the plate holding screws, then 4 nuts around the corners, undo the steering column. Unscrew the speedo cable, pull back, and undo the cable from the head unit. It all comes out.

Try the electrical board or the interior/body board.

I have a 90 RS, and don't recall having to remove the headlight **** to pull the cluster out.

Anyway, IF you must, there a couple of ways...
the hard way is to reach up behind the dash and trip the small release lever in the switch assembly behind the shaft. Then the shaft and **** will come out as one assembly.

MUCH easier way....
Use a mirror to look at how the **** is attached to the shaft. You will see its just a flat plate spring that binds onto the shaft. Just use a small screwdriver to push the spring back towards the ****, an it'll free the **** from the shaft...

From there, you're home free....provided you don't lose the little spring plate....do it with the door CLOSED and window UP...

i don't mean to be an *** on this one, but you realy should truck on over to your neighborhood Pepboys and pick up a Haynes manual or something the like, they give nice descriptions on how to take over intricate pieces such as the instrument cluster.

i have a 90.

yes you DO have to remove the headlight ****.

to remove it, you have to reach pull the panel below the swith. on the bottom side of the switch for the headlight, there is a small button (feel around you will find it). press in on the button, and the headlight **** will pull all the way out.

Dude this is nuts...All this over a ****. Okay I have a 91 rs. And anyone that said "yes you do need to remove the ****" is correct. Older models used an independant gauge cluster meaning every gauge came out on it's own without taking any other gauges with it. But, in 88' or 89' They started using a monopanel. meaning all gauges in one piece. anyone with a monopanel needs to remove the damn ****. anyone with independant gauges does not. And if you do have independant gauges I have some gauges for sale come buy'em.
