If you go to the home page ( www.thirdgen.org ) and click on the link to the left titled "Tech Data", and scroll to the bottom of the page, you'll see it.

it depends on the cam and the ramp speeds, but i would guess it would be in the 265-275 advertised duration range.

ok after research i came up with a couple of cams. which do you think would be most powerful for my LO3? i want lots of low end but i don't want a low high rpm range.. here is what i found give me your opinions

this is a comp xtreme energy cam:

grind:256
lift: .447/.454
rpm range: 1000-5200

another comp xtreme engergy cam:

grind: 262
lift: .462/.469
rpm range: 1300-5600

crane powermax cam:

adv duration: 272/284
lift: .454/.480
rpm: 1500-5800
(this cam seems to have the highest specs for the rpm range it has)

crane powermax:

adv duration: 260/272
lift:.427/.454
rpm: 1200-5500

crane powermx emission legal:

adv duration: 254/264
lift: .401/.423
(seems like the weekest cam, also says it's for low to mid range torque and hp for 305)

well there they are guys.. i'm stuck deciding on them cams.. with any opinions would be great help to me

what other mods are done, what gearing do you have, 5speed or auto, if auto, what converter are you running. what kind of power band are you looking for?

From you asking about the lo3 cam i assume you ahve an lo3 so make sure you get a roller cam and not a flat tappet. The cams you posted are flat tappet cams and will not work with the Fbody lo3 since its a roller motor. with a roller, if you dont want to mess with it too much and jsut want to drive it id stay below 208 degrees of duration and an LSA of 112+ with an aftermarket agressive roller cam. Above that, the ecm will definatly need to be dialed in and a 454 tbi will be needed along with the usual mods the lo3 needs. Even with lower durations doing some tuning with the ecm would definatly be advisable. Youll need to make sure you dont have wads of lift either with the stock heads. Thats one reason that the LT1 cam is so popular. It doesnt overwork the stock springs, it has reasonable ammounts of duration and an efi friendly LSA.

EDIT: if you have a pickup jsut disregard all this.

oh, make sure you dont get a cam that has too high of an rpm range since the tbi wont be able to feed a healthy high winding V8

1 get a roller cam
2 the heads suck, i would suggest pulling them off and putting some decient heads with good springs on there when you do your cam swap.

atleast then you can see some gain....

i know of a few cases where people went thru all the ultimate TBI mods, did the LT1 cam, did the headers, ect....

....and still had a close to stock ( exhaust, tuneup and air cleaner) car run the same times.

fact is, theres more then just a bad cam in that motor.... it has a bad everything.(performance wise)

alright guys thanks for the help and info.. i really don't have a massive amount of money to spend on this thing as far as heads go.. so i guess i will keep it stock until a 350 block comes along for me or something.

get teh LT1 cam then. Theyre only like 50 bucks and you wont have to mess with much. Itll be a huge improvement over that piece of scrap iron you have in there now.

the TBI isnt bad everything just heads and cam! if you put good one of those on a 305 you have a great potential car(once you get posi and better gears)

#264HP

It's fairly close the the LT1 cam's duration and LSA specs, but has less lift.

The less lift can be good. It means less possibilty of retainer-to-valve seal problems as well as coil bind when using stock springs.

If needed, 1.6:1 rocker can be used to bring the lifts to .437"/.452", as well as increasing the duration ~2-3*.

The downfall there is cost. S-A roller tips can be had at www.enginekits.com for $120, but that's still $120 more than a used LT1 cam for $50. You do, however, get benefits of roller tip rockers.

I guess it's all in the eye of the beholder, or in this case, soon-to-be-holder :sillylol:

i really like that howards cam P/N 110225K. It looks like it would be a real good match to a near stock setup if you have the time to work with it and get it tuned.

edit: opps, thats for the older retrofit kits. *thinks to self* man that would be nice in my engine...

I second that cam AJ recommended. You probably wont have to touch a thing. It should run right without any problems.
