damn talons!!!!
This dude in a talon ripped me up yesterday....but this guy was so into his car, you could tell he's never seen a boob in his life lol. when i said good job, he looked the other way. my question is, what is the best way to shift an automatic off the line? Stupid question, I know....but all I do is just gun the b*tch...and I'm thinking there might be a more efficient way to get higher RPM's with an auto. (without hurting the tranny)
Thanks a lot

even if you dont have a stall converter hold the brake, bring the rpms up too about 1500 then mash the throttle- of coarse you have to let off the brake, but that should really help you with your launches, because you will be that much more into your power band than at idle get what im saying?

It's been my experience that manually shifting an auto doesn't do a whole lot. Just put the thing in "D" and powerbrake the thing like somebody said.

For me, put it in D and go.
Just to clear things up, when left in D, my car will shift at about 4300-4400 rpm. I manually shift at 5,000. I attribute the 5 tenths to shifting higher, keeping the car from dropping out of it's power band, not from manually shifting alone. If I had manually shifted at the same rpm it shifts itself, I assume I would have ran the same times. Just thought I would clear that up.

i manually shift my auto at 5500. Car still pulls into 2nd just as hard as shifting at 4500.
i dont recomend this however, unless you are trying to kill your l03 as i am since i have a new engine ready for it
.
i attribute the modified throttle body, full open exhaust (no cat no muffler), and some chip tuning i did to me "not" loosing power at high rpms. It does die from 5500 to 6k though
even though its a tiny cam, it sounds sweet at 5500 with the exhaust how it is. its just screaming.... screaming, shift damn-it.

i dont think thats as bad as what i do. I like to slam it into first and punch it. Love that feeling. Get rammed up against the seatbelt from the engine braking and then get slammed back into the seat when i gun it after the shift. Gotta love that 3.08 ratio first gear. Even with the highway gears it still pulls real good in first.
