The ecm would throw a code which in turn would hurt performance. tbichips.com has chips with egr turned off within the chip if needed.

im not positive how yours would behave, but when my EGR broke, it made the car run extra rich when crusing and hurt my gas miliage.

that? what that??

anyway... my egr was removed, block off plate etc, performer intake, car pings like crazy anywhere past half throttle and it feels like something is holding it back so i had to retard timing to where it is now, doesnt ping but the performance is severely lacking..

I get a code for egr once in a while but i thought that was removed from me eeprom

That's because egr actually allows for a little extra timing. And because your chip still has the same timing chart, it is causing ping, which in turn is retarding your timing via ecm.

thats the thing, the computer isnt retarding timing, i had to do it manually, i thought that the computer would retard it before i could ever hear it. and im hearing it.

Your knock sensor may be bad. Hearing pings or knocks is definetely not a good thing.
The ecm should be retarding the timing quite a bit, I not sure what the setting is in the stock chip, but I think it is something like 20*, but like I said not completely sure on that number
