I seem to be seeing a lot of posts lately about people asking what cam is good in their car. Seeing how i plan on doing a cam swap this winter i also have the same question. However i know next to nothing about cams. So lets all learn about cams so we can better make our choice. Here's the questions: what is the difference between advertised duration and duration at .050 in.? I'm assuming that valve lift is how high the cam makes the valve rise, but i could be very wrong. What is lobe seperation? one more thing, rocker arms, 1.6vs1.5. 1.6's just increase lift not duration correct? And to wrap this up. how do each of these charastics effect performance?
Im hoping for everyones sake this makes us all smater people, b/c right now it seems like there are two types of people out there, ones who know everything about cams and those who dont know anything.

The best way to get the correct info on all your cam questions is to go to the source. Try this www.compcams.com .

yeah, i beleive comp has alot of good reading material on their site.
just for clarification, 1.6 rockers do give you more duration at .050, typicaly abotu 1.5* and technicly just a hair more advertised (advertised isn't at zero lift
)
but as for the rest of the stuff, there is SO much info, i couldn't possibly type it all out. best bet is to just start reading.
