Sounds like you don't know what the hell you were doing. Others have had great success with the swap. I suggest you just dissapear from this board right now because you are doing nothing but trying to cause problems.

I seem to be doing ok
And the scary part is the computer chip is just now getting tuned in, the times in my sig were on a blown header gasket and an untuned chip.
Have fun spending all your cash on new runners, intake, plenum, throttle body, fuel rails, and injectors if you ever plan on catching my "crappy" tbi's trap speeds

if you really want to get into it.... they're both ****ty..

one's a glorified electronic carb, and the other chokes the engine even when dead stock.... (well, really they both choke them...)

now a formed sheetmetal intake..... that'll flow some air...

TPI sucks too, especially the maf stuff. Its a pain to tune if you ever change anything. The LV8 constant or whatever the hell its called is alot less intuitive then the VE as far as tuning is concerned, not to mention that your engine will pretty much never rev higher then 4500 rpms. The "tuned" port isnt really good for performance and the aftermarket stuff is outragious is price.

The only real reason it probably runs better is the fact that unlike your motor the ecm is set up to work properly with the motor in there. Also, have you ever had a peak at the stock TBI timing curve? Its a joke. As for the heads, the tpi heads are a good casting to start out with for a budget build-up, but they flow like crap in stock form. The only thing their good for is making torque because of their small cc runners that develop good low rpm velocity. Paired with the stock "tuned (to gag the motor) port" induction it develops real good mid range torque, hence the good seat of the pants feel. Granted, they can make it into the 13's with the stock stuff, cam, gears, etc., but look at what others have done with the tbi. The fast tpi cars all use aftermarket stuff with extensive ammounts of tuning. All the same things your tbi car needed. Your not really upgrading any, just adding in different stumbling blocks in your path for when you decide to make it go faster. And trust me, it wears off real fast. Youll be itching to make it go faster in no time at all.

Think im bs'ing you? Wrong... Back when i was younger my parents had an L98 GTA and me and my brother would sneak it out at night and tkae turns having some fun with it. Did nice burnouts and had a good fair share of torque and it was quick, but it really wasnt truly fast. Come to think of it, it was only about as fast as my present car, which isnt really surprising when you think about it. Same exact rear and the smog heads flow about the same and it has similar durations cam wise, just less compression. Oh, parts were expensive as well, $300 jsut for the maf sensor when it died.

It is rather amazing how much mid range torque the tpi makes. And kind of like Dimented said, it makes it "feel" faster, but eventually the top end dies. My buddy has a '91 Z with a 383 tpi with an LT4 hot cam and dart aluminum heads. It feels faster then mine, at least from a 0-60mph stand point. It's always a trip to race him at the track though. We both have roughly the same '60 time, with his usually being slightly better. But then he pulls on me, but by the eight mile, we are usually just about even, and by the end of the quarter, I have passed him up. His runs on average are 13.8-14.0 at 98.5-100mph.
It's always fun to give him **** on how my tbi beats his tpi, which I might add is comprised of a BBK 1,000cfm throttle body ($200+), 24pph injectors (I believe)($500), SLP intake and runners ($500), aftermarket fuel rails, and a few other things. Though I do believe he is in major need of chip tuning mainly in the timing curve, I could say the same about mine (in the works)
