Speed limiter on a 1992 tbi 5-speed?

 

not sure of the 5 speed, but I think it is directly related to the speed rating of the tires the car came with, which means it is the same as my 92 auto which cuts out on me at 112 mph.

 

i have a 92 auto, and it cuts out at 105 and sometimes will go and cut out at 112 mph

 

as lousy as it sounds its got a darn limiter,chip will delete this pesky problem the first time i had fealt this was my x-girls brand new 91rs,i did some mods right away(at 215mi. )nothin like modding a new dar,well i put 3.42s in the car,frame conn,pulleys,thermostat as well as a jet chip,mannn i get out on the beltway open it up it was feelin pretty good 4th gear then the car fealt as if someone pulled the coilwire off,she looked at me and said "what did you do to my new car"inside i am thinkin huh nothin the dealership cant fix:lala: so i called my buddy in parts and told him what happened he said that is the limiter all rs f-bodies do that,well a call to jet chips they said they would send me a chip that deleted the limiter for no charge just send the other chip back...well i was off the hook with her .........

 

isnt there a mod in the tech articles for making a switch to turn off the power to the speedo? you arent going to know how fast you going after you max the speedo out anyway that and i dont think your really going to care a whole especially if you drag it.

 

yes and I believe it was Mr. Dude who discovered on the dyno that it will drastically effect the power curve when you do that.

 

Mine cuts out at 117mph.

 

have always been told the limiter kicked in at 105

with the stock 3.08 gears, i got over 120 a couple of time and it didn't cut out.

put 3.42s in it (speedometer has been corrected), and it now cuts out at 105.

strange

 

from the factory, all the cars that didn't have speed rated tires, were limited at 112, due to the tires only being rated to that speed.
