open element
im thinking about installing an open element air filter on my 92 RS TBI. what is the estimated horsepower gain from this modification? how easy is the install? i examined the tech article on this site and it seems a little risky for my computer. anyone have any input for me ? should i do it ?

With a K&N filter you could see about 5 hp. If you have the stock exhaust it won't do much cause your engine needs to breathe out too. Its simple to do, there are about a million threads on this topic so just search and you can find just about anything. I'd say go for it, it sounds better and looks nicer than stock.

it sounds better cause you can actually hear it breath. it wont bother your computer. just get an open element with punch out holes in the bottom so you can put the IAT sensor back in place. actually you dont even have to put it back, you can just place it somewhere outta the way. by outta the way, i mean somewhere safe and outta the way.

So far I think this is the most informative open element thread I've seen on TGO (and yes, it was my VERY first post here, too
) I'd suggest reading through it completely as it has LOTS and LOTS of very good/important info on it. I'm even thinking about making it a sticky...Bruce (90RS305)

Does it matter where you place the iat sensor? Someone told me that it is better to put it in a cooler area, because doing so will trick the computer and help you run faster.

If you take a look at the top of the TBI Forum, snflupigus has created some ALLGOHERE threads. One of these threads is taylored to Open Elements. Please in the future refer to that thread about any questions on Open Elements you may have, and if for SOME reason it doesn't answer your question, post in that thread. The TGO Mods do this for you guys to try to make life a lil' more convinient for ya (or at least finding info about your car
). Thanks Guys!
