Removing Backing Plate Off Hood?

I just removed my backing plate off my powerbuldge hood and its going to rain here in a bout 3 hours, will I have any problems with water after doing this? And if you have done this and have had no problems how long has your hood been like that? Thanks for any help

I never had any problems with my Camaro by having the cowl induction scoop open year-round. You could occasionaly see raindrops or snowflakes being sucked in through the opening.
I did have a couple drain holes drilled into the base of the air cleaner housing to let out any water that would accumulate.

When you remove the backing from the cowl it lets water in. This cause two problems for me. #1 water ran into my Xstream Airlid and down my tbi into my motor... I had to pull every plug and crank it to get the water out. #2 it kept my starter soaked and eventually burnt it out. If you don't have a K&N Airlid, and don't mind replacing starters... leave it off.

I was thinking to prevent water from getting in couldnt I put a screen off a window in the buldge and paint it black and would that not prevent most water from going in and still let air in.

That wouldn't keep water out of there anymore than it would on a window....

But a screen does keep water out of a window.... thats the point..

Uhm... go get out your hose, spray it at your screen door on your house with someone standing behind it. I have a feeling the person will get wet. Thats the point. It's not waterproof, and water will get in.

I am not planning on spraying a water hose into my hood.. and It doesnt rain that much here. Also if it is going to rain for a long period of time ill just put the plate back on.

Then you have your answer. I was going to ask if I could buy your backing plate from you since my car doesn't have one and has cost me a starter and the aggravation of having to clear my motor of water ingestion. To me its not worth the headache for something that probably only delivers a couple hp, but to each his own.

Ok after hearing a few opinions from various people I decided to put it back on and im in the process of looking for the functional induction set up off an early 80's Bird. Anyone know where I can get one? I posted an ad in classifieds. Or anyone installed this and have an opinion? Also how much would a fair price be? Thanks for any help.
