Which TBI to use

I was thinking about purchasing this engine and swapping it in next summer. I was wondering which TBI unit I should get to sit on top of it. I know I will have to do some chip tuning and such but I need to know which TBI to pick up to feed it fuel and air. Thanx.

a little pricey.
have ya checked out jegs or paceperformance

its an engine rebuilder and exchange outfit.

since everyone purtty much says the stock unit wont support more then 300hp i suppose you could get a holley TBI or a 454 tbi w/ 2" bores especially if you plan on making more then 300hp.

Well, the reason I was going with that engine is because 1. It has to be emissions legal where I am and 2. I kinda wanna stick with TBI because then I would just modify my stock chip and I don't wanna have to completely switch intake systems.

If you are set on that engine, then your best bet is to bore the intake out to 2", and go with a Holley 670 or 454 TBI. I still don't understand why these ebay tbi engines always use the 1 11/16" bores and claim to make 300+ hp........

If you are opposed to boring the intake, then the turbocity tbi is your next best option, or do the ultimate tbi mods.

If you are looking into an emissions legal swap that will yield some nice numbers, look into a jasper l98 engine-I think they're around $1,400 after core. Jasper is a reputable company, and l98 numbers are tried and true. You can always switch cams as well, and slap the Holley 300-66 intake on there along with a 2" tbi and you'd be sitting pretty good. You would need a spacer to reuse the stock egr valve or an older style egr valve to stay smog legal, but it's not complicated to do so.

Aws far as your chip goes, it might cost you almost the smae to get you original chip worked on as it could to get a new one burned, check out www.TBICHIPS.com, and email him, he might be able to burn you a good chip for not alot of $, besides if you arent extremely careful when pulling chips, you bend and break the prongs (guilty here), i did it when i put my new chip in

Do any of you guys know where I can find the 454 TBI unit? They are like hen's teeth. Also, will it bolt on, or will I have to do surgery?

Right here is a 454 TBI,

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...sPageName=WDVW

it should bolt right up but you will probably have to get the intake manifold bored out to accept the larger throttle bores of the 454 TBI unit

Your best bet is on ebay. This unit IS NOT A DIRECT BOLT ON. You have to convert to a different stlye IAC and modify the throttle bracket on the TBI unit itself. It does literally bolt up but the linkage and IAC will not for the above reasons. You are going to need a carb intake or a TBI intake with 2" bores to prevent turbulent flow.

Thanks for the info. Man, I love this site! Not being really in the know with this kind of thing, Mr. Capone, what changes do I have to make IAC -wise?

The truck IAC is a little different. The easiest way to get around this is to use the truck IAC. To do this you need to get the plug off the truck wiring harness and splice it in place of your current IAC. They are both 4 wire IAC but are merely shaped differently.
