350 Tbi
Hey, I want some feed back on this. My cousin has a buddy that is selling a 350 TBI motor out of an 88 or 89 truck. And he only wants $100 for it. It will probably need a rebuild but do you guys think this will be a worth wile swap. I just want some more power for now untill I can afford an LS juan. Being that it's TBI, everything should hook right up, correct? thanks for anny input.
One more thing, he aslo said it has a four bolt main.

I did that swap, its easy and yes its worth it (IMO). everything will bolt right up but you will still need to make sure you have a 350 knock sensor, electronic spark control, and there is one more thing I just can't think of it. the engine I had came out of an '89 half ton pickup and its just a 2 bolt main. anyway I wold say go for it, mainly because its only a hundred bucks.
ohh yeah the third thing is the right size injectors

yes you should be alright, the price sounds like a deal if there isnt anything wrong with the engine that cant be fixed with a rebuild, i did the same thing, i put a 95 engine out of a truck in my 89 camaro, and it runs great, if it is a L05 engine you'll have 210 HP, everything hooked right up i just had the adjust the idle on the throttle body and do a little timing tuning but it has been running fine for the past 3 years and hasnt missed a tick and i also just out nitrous on it too which really makes it fly, good luck

Yup, get that engine and do it up right at your leisure. PLEASE don't rush the job like I had to do. (305 had a rod knock)
You'll be glad you did. I love the way it just keeps pulling and pulling...
Oh yeah, I've not done this yet, but everyone tells me that I should get the 350 prom chip for mine.
Anybody else still using the 305 chip in their L05? Did you just bump the timing a little?
*EDIT*
Oh yeah, don't forget to take the plug out of the passenger side head for your fan switch. (Talking from experience here)
It is a 5/16" square head plug.

I just thought of something else you will want to do. If the TBI unit comes with it, just take the upper injector pod off with the injectors, and swap it to your 305 TBI. IIRC, the throttle linkage is setup different then the 305's.

I did forget to mention the chip didn't I. ideally you will want to burn your own but a chip out of a caprice cop car is supposed to work too. I havn't swithed chips yet (lack of funds) and I will repeat what jconrad said "don't rush" if you do you will probabbly make a mistake (hopefully not). I know I did but I won't bore anyone with the details. good luck though

Everyone hit it on the head. I would consider a cheap heads and cam swap before you put it in though. You could get a set of 305 or 350 TPI heads for next to ntohing and toss in a LT1 cam as well. If it has to be rebuilt, those parts will have to come off anyways. So you can literally add 100 hp to that engine for less than 200 bucks (on top of all your other planned rebuild costs)
