cam swap and bearings?

hello guys i am planning on putting a lt1 cam, aluminim water pump, new timming chain, and change th cam bearings. Now i preaty much now how to do th cam ,water pump, but about cam bearings, are they hard to change. If you could change them you do need a special tool right?

If any one could help me out or give me some good tips on this it will help alot.

Car: 86 T/A, 86 z28, 79 berlinetta, 69 chevelle (totally rusted)
Engine: 350's in the f-bodys. 327 in the works for the T/A, MIGHT go with a 383, none in the chevelle
Transmission: T/A has a 5-speed, z28 has a 700-r4, th-350 in the 79' (5 or 6-speed soon), and none in the chevelle
I'd really reccomend that you leave them in. Do you have a reason to change them? and how many miles are on it?

Well the car has 132,000 miles on it. But just for the cr*p of it i thought ay why not change the bearings. Thats why i asked if you need any special tools. Do the bearings go bad?

You do need some special tools and IIRC youll need to disassemble the motor to get them all. Dont bother changing them, just make sure you take care not to damage the bearings when your swapping out the cam.

Yea, the only way I could see doing them would be from the bottom with the crank out. Be careful when you slide the old cam out and the new one in and you'll be ok.

Yes, they can "go bad." The couple I have seen weren't aged as much as they were installed poorly. When removing the cam, get either a cam handle or a couple really long bolts that thread into the bolt holes. Do anything you can to keep the cam level. The objective is to get the cam out without knicking the bearings. It can be done, just have to go slow and be careful.
