Do you think this would work?

One of my friends suggested another way to make a home ram air. He suggested that I buy a hood scoop from JC Whitney for about $50, and cut a small hole in my hood after lining up the scoop. Then mount the scoop and connect a hose from the bolted scoop to my air cleaner. I actually sounds like a good idea to me, and I have debated trying it. After painting it, you probably could not even tell, as long as it is done properly.

Has this suggestion already been posted?

I wouldn't butcher the hood like that. You aren't going to gain much. You have a 170hp motor, get an open element for 30 bucks and spend money on trying to really make power by replacing every part of the motor. My $.02

If you really want a "cold air intake", find a dual snorkel setup or get a ram air box (much like the dual snorkel setup). Don't kill the hood for an "idea."

If you can weld or know someone who has a welder then get yourself a TPI setup and some 4" intake piping and make yourself a TPI style CAI. A few members have already done this setup and they have managed to get some pretty good gains out of it. One member mentioned a .5 second drop on teh quarter mile run...pretty good if you ask me.

that works fine on a camaro, but he has a firebird. we can't just adapt a tpi firebird airbox for our cars, the battery on a tbi car is on the opposite side from a tpi car.

I bought one of those hood scoops from JCW, but i plan on making the scoop open front and open rear. I posted a couple pics on the SW region board.
