Motor gets slow at high RPM

When I hit the gas, it seems to go fast but as it gets around 3000 rpms it doesnt seem to go so fast and it makes a deep sound like its sucking for air, any body else have this problem?

You need to explain your problem a little more. Whats going fast? The car or the engine?

Sorry, let me try to explain a little better.
When I'm in first I can hit the end preaty fast, but in 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc. when it gets past 2000 or 2500 rpm the car seems like it's almost not getting a good mixture, sometimes it will jump around like hesitating, sometimes it's worse than other times so I can't really figure out where to start looking. Hope this helps a little more.

Check your spark plug wires, sounds ignition related.
To do this just wait for no moon midnight, pop the hood and unhook the hood light, look closely for blue sparks, it's the best way.

.035 to .045 (depending on coil). .035 for stock. You may want to check your feed line fuel pressure. You could have a dying pump.

I found an open vac line coming from the passenger side wiring harness that runs along the firewall, I took a screw and closed it off and now it seems to be much much quicker, I'll take a pic later cause I cannot find where this vac line goes.

Oh thats easy that engine has no top end I have the same one in my car it pulls respectably below 3k but anything above is nothing unless you have overdrive and well thats just a good way to empty your gas tank really fast I know from experience

do you have any experience with another 305 to compare it to or is this the only one youve driven?

My girlfriend used to have a 84 impala 305 carb, it was much faster than this. It's not only that it's slow it's just it shakes around and sound like it's hesitating the more you step on it.

Just changing them doesn't mean they couldn't be burned already. They usually burn themselves WHEN you replace them, it's just the nature of the beast.... mess with em and they'll move (duh) just sometimes too close to the exhaust.
It really still sounds SO much like a bad plug wire.

If you don't have an open element air cleaner yet (I'm assuming this is an L03?), do that and see if you like it better.. Putting a 14x3" (triangular edelbrock with K&N) air cleaner on my brothers L03 '91 bird drastically improved performance (pulls up high now)... Just a thought..

im having the same problem and know one can seem to give me an anwser. its kindof hard to explain what its doing isnt it?? mine pulls untill 3500 and falls on its face. it wont rpm above 3500 and wont even shift untill i let off the gas if im floored. if im just cruisin you wouldnt ever know it does this. mine in a 92 350 truck though with a brand new motor. never did this before. the only thing i can thing of is the timing chain is off a key or somethings clogged in my exaust. another thing i just found out about from several people (true or not) is the factory stainless exaust has to layers and the inner layer can somehow close up?? it gives somehow causing people to think they have a fuel problem. i dont have the extra money to take a chance at buying new exaust for a theary though

Problem Solved, It was just the stupid 4.99 fuel filter. Well it could of been worse, thanks for all the input.
