Ignition Need Quick Help! Please
I was driving down the road and my car suddenly cut out on me. its an 88 formula. I put on an open element a few weeks ago and am almost positive it was the culprit. I took it off to check misc wires around where it sits. I noticed 2 wires touching the chrome base and one looked like it had been burned thru from the open element. I figured it shorted out. No smoke or fires just wont start. Nothing works except the trunk motor.
Does anyone have an ignition wiring diagram?
Im typing from a wireless laptop being borrowed from a guy at burger king (where my car sits dead) so i need quick help since i have no ride and a pep boys down the corner.
THanks guys

Nevermind its fixed. I replaced fusable link inside steering column and insulated the wiring behind the open element. Runs much better. I got a code 43 which I am replacing the computer and esc possibily. Knock is in check. Car is running much better. Unfortunatly I cant afford to get the project underway due to college tuition and financial problems. I seriously love this car to death and have done a good job restoring/enhancing it, but now I must sell it. I live in the north atlanta area and i am asking $2000o.b.o check out the details in the classifieds
thanks guys

yepp. Im looking for a 350 tbi chip now. Any hints as to where i can find a factory type one. Obviously only 305 tbi chips are available for firebirds (since there were no LO5s in production for 3rd gens). Will a 350 tbi chip from a truck work? I had doubts about it due to the fact that they arent quite using the same parameters since each vehicle serves a diff job. Will a caprice chip maybe work?

but the problem is I cant just do a prom swap. I have to get a caprice module right? I havent even heard good reviews of the caprice prom anyways so Im not sure what chip to use. Are there any 350 TBI 3rd gens out there that have made a good .bin for chips for that setup?

I have a 350 TBI and are currently using the anlu5369.bin, which is for a LO5 under the ECM type 1228746, which is in every 1989-1992 gm 305 TBI f-body. Not sure about the 88'. Do some research and if you want, for $25 plus shipping I could burn you a chip. But do some research first, and let me know.

Actually, the caprice chip probably wouldn't work for you. See, the truck chip won't work because it uses the '7747 ECM. Most TBI cars including Caprices use the '8746, but your '88 model year car probably uses a '8063 ECM. Pull the ECM and make sure, you'll have to tune that on your own or get somebody to burn a new prom for your ECM.

I finally got around to checking my ecm for numbers and this is what I found:
The number on the actual unit (inside next to the prom) is 088061301158159
The service number is 1228063
and the prom has AMXZ on it.
Does anyone know if that is a 305 prom or not. It seems as though I have the 8063 ECM, so can I get a 350 chip burned for it? Camar92 if your able to burn one for me I would greatly appreciate it. My specs are:
1988 Firebird Formula
350 LO5 TBI engine (w/mostly 305 parts, not sure of cam/heads)
700R4 Auto transmission w/corvette shift
Air Conditioning, AIR tubing, stock exhaust, 180 degree stat, K&N open element
Maybe set fan to turn on at earlier temp than 210/220.
Looking for better performance and more efficient chip. Also trying to eliminate code 43 with ESC errors.
Thanks

thanks. I can definitely see myself benefiting from a proper chip now. Anyone available to burn me one? Im getting a 8746 computer (which I believe will just swap out with my 8063) Also, does anyone need a 7730 computer that could maybe swap me a 8746?

ok nvm on the 8746 computer. Im getting a 7747 and prom to match. I believe the 7747 doesnt support IAT. Does this matter much? The 7747 is easier to find and cheaper for me so the 8746 seems kind of pointless. Do I need to rewire once I get the 7747?
