Anyone ever had this problem?

So , ive had this problems for a while, but i just got my car up and going again after a tranny swap. after the car warms up every once in a while it will hesitate a little bit. Especially if you are coasting for a minute and then you hit the gas it will kinda bog down and they it will go. And sometimes like if im sitting at a red light for a second and the light turns green and i look in my mirror and when i start to go it will throw a bit of smoke out, and it smells real rich. Then sometimes it will even do it if i am just idleing, the RPMs will jump up and down. Yesterday i did the following: took the throttle body apart and cleanedthe whole thing out, change the fuel filter, air filter, set the timing back to zero and change the oil. It runs alot better now but the problem still exists.

Black smoke?

Have you done the old tune-up routine? I would replace plugs, wires, cap, and rotor and see if the problem goes away.

Its too much fuel in the tables and probably too much accel enrich. Or maybe jsut too much fuel and it bogs out when the accel enrich is added.

A tune up may also help if you havnt done it in a while but if it still persists more tehn likely its a problem with the 'stage 1 chip' that you have.

Put the stock chip back in and bump your base timing up a degree or 4. I bet everything will be back to normal and your car will run 100% better. Off the shelf chips make your car run like poo.

Black smoke?
No, its more of a greyish color smoke, i think. And the plugs, wires, cap, and button have been changed just recently also.

As far as the chip goes, it came from tbichips.com. I have the stage one and 2. what the difference is, im not sure. Anyhow the problem with the stock chip is that i dont have one. a While back i was going to put it back in and one of the pins broke. Anyone know where i can get another? I am going to buy a cable to run Winaldl and ill post the data when i get it.

Maybe sure the diaphram moves freely. They can get gumed up and stick over time. I wouldn't be suprised if that chip dumped unneeded fuel into the motor. It may be time for a new valve though. Almost every GM vehicle will need a new EGR valve sooner or later.

Do i need to take the EGR vavle off to check it? Also, if it is gummed up, do i need to buy a new one or just take it apart and fix it? Also with the chip, i took the stage 2 out and put in the stage one, at first i wasnt impressed with the performance, then i bumped the timing up to 6 degrees, and man, she sure came to life after that.

If it's like my carbed 305 you can just put your fingers under it and pull up on the diaphram without taking it off.

Yup. You can get a finger or screw driver in there. Carbon chunks can get in there over time. They have vacuum testers to test their ability to open and close. Stage 1 and 2 chips add a bit of timing and fuel but are not necessarily introducing the two when they are needed. Hence, people usualy have idle and off throttle problems as well as audable pining.

Del,

Check the junkyards in your area for a Camaro computer. If they have one you can use the chip from that. Supposing ofcourse that it has a stock chip in it. Should be pretty cheap.

That's pretty good. A computer from a junk yard would cost that much.
