Project 90" 350 TBI

Hi, i´m new here on this forum so please be nice

I have a Chevy C1500 90" truck With a 350 TBI enginge that i have some plans for, going to take out the engine and give it a good overlook and i was thinking about 300-350 hp maybe?

I have seen that there is tons of information in this forum but i simply dont have the time to go throgh it all at this time, so i just wonder, to reach 300 hp, what should i do?

My plans is fist of all is a set of headers, dual exaust at 2½"
A nice pair of heads, edelbrock performer? or is it overkill?
A new cam, but i dont have a clue wich i should chose, seems like a LT1 cam is recomended ?

And how much does the pistons and rods hold for in hp?
So if anyone got the recepie for a 350 running 300-350hp with the stock Injection electronics (dont want to dig in that) please let me know :hail:

And please have oversight(?) with the spelling, swedish guy

by the way, here is a picture from this summer,

larger injectors and/or higher fuelpressure and chip tuning would be recommended/necessary. i think you will find that after mods the car/truck just wont run right w/o a tuned chip.
what color is the truck?

Is it 454 Injectors that í should go for then?
Is it specialy "for the truck/engine" chip or some regular tune up chip ?

The couour is Lamborghini Murcilag Orange (Same as the Toyota Supra in The F&F)

Here is also a picture taken in sunlight, some difference there (unfinnished truck but..)

non 3rd gen images removed

i would install a FP gauge and crank the "stockers" from 12 up to 20 lbs and try that. i think the vette or cop inj's are larger @ 65 lbs than stock but if you are buying new the 80/90 may be the ticket i am if you do all mods you listed the 80/90 lbs may be a better choice. i am partial to GM competition orange. had a Z28 in that color a few years back. actually the VW beetle orange is unique.

I removed your images because they are not 3rd gen related. However, we will let this thread live on the premise that we keep all disscussions TBI specific. TBI is TBI basically no matter what vehicle it is in. We usually ignore what type of vehicle it is in as long as the poster doesn't make a big deal about it. TBI was one of the most mass produced FI systems so we are bound to get off topic questions. We take this route as a compromise. So for now we will pretend that you have a 350TBI in a f-bod.

vortecs, edel rpm/airgap, and a LT4/256ish cam should get you around that 300+ mark. put a 454 tb or holley 670 unit on top and stick with some new 80#.

2.5" duals are good for your application. 1 5/8 primaries are good for anything up to 400hp. and shorties arent too restriction at those numbers.

This will all be about as useful as drag slicks in rain if you dont do some chip work. Grab some win aldl sorta stuff and a laptop and get to collecting data. Then, if you must, find a good chip burner. Obviously everyone on here will tell you of the benefits of doing it yourself. If need be, and you dont mind spending the extra $$, holley sells a nice ecu that programs a little easier (realtime) and has downloads available to start you off. it costs a pretty penny at around $650-7. Either way get to reading the DIY prom boards

No LT1 Cam then? Because that cam seem to pop up everywhere in this forum

But if i jus go for "standard" edel perfom heads and a edel perfom manifold, get it up to 2" and a 454 TBI ?

I am planing of finding "used" heads and i think Vortecs will be hard to find in sweden... and if i go for the edel perf. heads i could (not will) still use the original manifold right?

original manifold is OK for Edel heads but wont accept 2.00 TB's . to best of my knowledge. need to be bored. now the edel TBI will not accept 2.00 TB so needs a bore as well but flows better than stocker. a holley TBI manifold is a 2.00 TB application out the box. i am very happy with it. i think it gave me back the bottom end TQ i lost on cam swap.

I'd like to think I'm making just short of 300 hp. I'm running high 13's @97mph in a 3600 pound car. I have 70 lb injectors and lots of tuning by me. I wasn't even able to get the car started and idleing with the stock chip. Took me 2 days of tuning to get it drivable with no experience and some notes from the DIY prom board. You can program our ecm's real time just like the holley setup. All you need is Craig Moates' AutoProm, it'a an all in one emulator, burner, aldl scanner.

You'll need the big block TB if you don't want it to be a restriction.
Stock rods are good to 300 hp if you put ARP bolts in them. Mine are going strong with 50,000 miles of hard abuse on top of what ever was on them to begin with. I would suggest the Lt-1 cam for starters, it's fairly tame so learnig the ropes of prom burning will go much smoothly. With good heads 300 hp is achievable. I would look into some of the other cheaper heads out there, such as iron eagles, pro topline or vortecs. Much more bang for your buck.

i think you can just get a tbi adapter and use a 2" unit. Either grab a 454 or get one of holleys 2" units. Turbo city also makes em, you can get them machined locally, or look around online.

my GM was a direct bolt onto the holley manifold. only issue was linkage needed some re tweaking. no big deal. manual trans with cruise control.. fuel distribution i believe is better than the single plance with adapter plate... seems TQ was not lost as was expected with cam swap same time.

is that the one with the 2 bbl tb on top of a mpfi manifold. I wouldnt recommend their mpfi setups. Cost too much.

I highly recommend checking out holleys 4 bbl mpfi kit/manifold. Pair it with a commander 950 unit and your set. The manifold is about $300 plus $250 for fuel rails and lines plus another $400 for the TB. it flows 1000cfm. just grab some junkyard injectors and a 730 ecm, then your set. If you consider changing to a dry system then i woudl do that. Dont bother with 4bbl TBI setups.

OK,

Have got my engine in to pieces now and the time to order the stuff is coming closer

I hav an idea and i wonder what you guys think of it,

Edelbrock Performer heads, performer TBI intake bore it to 2"
454SS TBI Unit, and a new cam, wich i havent decided. And a pair of headers, (around 200$ or something like that, no "fly me to the moon headers")

What do you think? Will it run nice together and if, what do you think i would get out in HP from it?

if your sticking with duals (i think you mentioned earlier) then i would suggest hooker 2460s or hedmans. The 2460s can be had coated for under $300. They dont include a y-pipe which makes them a good start for duals but if you go single, beware, allow an extra $100-$150 for a decent Y to be fabbed

Truck TBI engines are not equipped with roller cam, however some still have roller blocks starting around 92. I don't know for sure what the casting number should be. LT1 cam would be doable if you have a roller block but you will need the rest of the roller stuff

Summit has flowmaster Y collectors for $40.00

Hooker makes a y-pipe for the 2460s, part number 16767.

Yep, here's a thread about it with pics:

https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=273856

It's a little pricey, though, at $200.

yea but as I recall it uses smaller size pipe then the Hooker 2055's Ypipe. I guess they didn't want their Comps better then they're Super Comps. Still best bang/buck is 2055's and cut air tubes off IMHO. What I' m going to do.
