fish bowl...

has anyone tried the truck fishbowl on their 3rdgen tbi?
it looks promising but very difficult to put under a stock hood.
turbo city sells on for about 40.00 bucks, they said it helped their gas mileage alot but didn't say how much hp it added. i assume that it acts as a venturi and speeds up the air coming into the tb bores.and the filter sits on top of it. i would be interested to see if this would work. but becasue i have the performer rpm intake with 1/2 " spacer i don't think it will fit with my 14x3 filter. i also have a kn xtreme lid so if i shrunk my filter down to a 14x2 i don't think i'll loose too much airflow.
any ideas? oh i have the ss hood with the hole in the front cut out so i get an almost ram air effect. soon i will close the filter off to the hood from the engine bay if i ever get around to it...

I would save your money. It may work in their controled lab testing (and in theory it should work) but I doubt it is worth the $40 on our cars. Put that money towards a part that will make power.

the only thing i have left to do is new heads or a complete rebuild.
i wish i could see a dyno sheet to see if it works. because it would be a cheap dollar to hp ratio part. say it added 5 hp then that would be $8.00 per 1 hp plus it did save gas... just an idea???

Car craft was "supposidly" able to get like 8 hp at the rear wheels on a stock 350 TBI truck with it. I went from 265 to 275 RWHP with it on mine. The principle is sound because TBI breathes from the side. It has to because of the injectors. That radius is better than a stock spacer. It does the same thing as sticking an open element air cleaner on it but looks stock.

Take your money and use it to seal it to the scoop. I too plan on getting the SS hood (now that I work for an aftermarket company ) and I have already begun tinkering with an effective way to pull this off. These cars react VERY well to colder air, and I would be willing to bet you will get a much better effect if with the ram air then you will the fish bowl...

Well ya know for 40 bucks whats it hurt to try...I wanted to do it when i saw the cc article but everyone said no save money, lately i'm starting to think of taking mine in a different directions than what everyone says on here so i might give them a call. If it works cool, if not we try it on my dads truck, plus i have a 14x4 open element and a 4" cowl hood so i have plenty of room to play with

If you are talking about project jake, where they used the hypertech chip, headers, etc, it was an LO3 - not an LO5.

The truck in car craft had a 350 in it. I am looking at it as I type. I got my gains on my moded 355 when I was running TBI.

Ahhh, you're correct, I was thinking about this article, my mistake.

http://carcraft.com/techarticles/116_0412_tbi/

"We wanted the newest truck we could get for the cash, but we were outgunned on all the '94s and ended up with a '93 GMC Sierra in Government Orange with a TBI 305, a 4L60-E overdrive transmission, and air conditioning."

the two magazine companies are sister companies and if you read the one in the chevy high performance they talk about the one with the 350 they are both orange trucks and one of them had a black hood. i'll have to look through my magazines to get the exact date. also the fish bowl was added in part 2 i only have part one. i think the part two was in july???
