trouble starting my camaro

i tried starting my camaro today and it wouldnt start, i heard the fuel pump kick in. i tried again this time holding the gas down and the car started. it was flooded and and wouldnt run unless i held the gas down a little. what could my problem be? the car has been setting due to winter weather. but i have been starting the twice a week to make sure the engine doesnt ruin. my car is a tbi car.

You said it wouldn't start, but in what way? I'm assuming that the engine was turning over, but wouldn't catch and run, right?

Did the "check engine light" come on at all? How long has it been since the regular tune-up parts have been replaced (cap, rotor, spark plugs, spark plug wires, O2 sensor, fuel filter)? I would suggest getting someone else to try cranking the engine while you watch the TBI unit and watching the spray pattern of the injectors, sometimes if they sit for long enough they can get clogged a little bit.

yes the SES light came on. also the car started. but i had to hold the gas in while i cranked the motor. when it started it was spitting kinda like i wasnt getting enuff spark to fire the motor.
my mom has a 2000 ford explorer that does the same thing. and she was told that it may be her tps, so im thinking that maybe whats wrong. im gonna check it out today. it got dark on me last night so i didnt fool with it, i had a spark plug tester i guess i could run it from my coil to the distributor to see whats happening. and i will scan it for codes to. ill keep you guys posted!

check your MAP sensor, TPS sensor, and check for vacume leaks... a lot of the time a vacume line or capilary(sp) will be busted and you cant see and it will prohibit your car from starting

i replaced the coolant sensor and the car starts and idles fine. it looked like old rusty coolant down in were the sensor was. so i took a tooth brush and stuck it down in the hole and twisted it around. and new coolant started seeping through the nasty stuff.
finally i got it all cleaned out to were the coolant was nice and clean (green) and put the new sensor back in.
