New 58cc Heads From Trick Flow
is anyone else seen these yet. it looks like a good replacement for the torquers. and save 50lbs and all for $1005 from summitt. this looks like the best choise on the market exept for AFR... does anyone alse think these will give decent horsepower over the torquer heads...

You've got my attention, haven't been able to locate any 081 heads so I'm looking for other options. Happen to have a part number handy?

If they are aluminum (which I assume they are since because of the 50lbs weight savings) you are going to want a smaller chamber. You woul dbe left with the stock 9.3:1 CR with an aluminum head. Although, that is okay, you can run much more to increase power potential.

If you have the money for aftermarket heads, you'd be crazy not to buy them. Comparing almost any performance head to any stock head (other than vortec) is like comparing a BB gun to a shot gun.
I would get the 64cc heads so when you finally step up to bigger displacment you'll be good to go. Unless you have something to prove with the 305.

from performance heads...
they are magnafluxed, bronze guides hp springs good to .510 lift, cut for screw in studs and guideplates 3 angle valve job, resurfaced stage 1 ported. 1-800-722-4645. they don't have a web site but its called performance heads.

Personally I plan on keeping the little old 305 and see how far I can go with it. Its just a weekend cruising car so I don't need to be super fast, I'd leave it with just bolt ons except I like to wrench on her.

the part number is tfs30300005 at summitt...i'm also planning on using a thin head gasket to pick up alittle extra compression. i'm willing to try anything right now with the torquer heads i have alot of valve float in the upper rpm range..

thats a spring problem, not a head problem, but those heads should be worth some power over the torquer heads.

i know but i don't feel like putting any more money in cast iron... not only will the trick flows flow better they save fifty pounds and will look better. as far as buying stock reworked heads yes you will get an increase but, your at 500 and then when you up grade down the road you will be shelling out the 1000 for a total of 1500. because no one will give you any thing for port stock heads...

is the $1000 for each or a pair? everything on the summit site seems to indicate each. what about intake bolt pattern? early or late? how much would these have to be milled to keep my 9.5:1 compression? or if i go with the 335kit with the 10:1 pistons, how much then would need to be milled off?
would these work well with the xe268 i am looking at right now without any porting?

kinda my thoughts. back to 416's with 1.94/1.50's and porting i guess. thought about getting the bare torquers and buying the valves seperate, then putting the springs from the cam kit i am buying on the heads.
complete heads from jegs: $379.99 a piece
xe 268 cam and lifters: $169.99
total: $929.97
OR
bare heads from jegs: $259.99 a piece
xe 268 complete kit $309.99
manley valves: $114.84
total: $944.81 plus machine work to put the valves in. shoot, i might could do that myself. but i could do some porting/blending and i would have springs that match the cam. and it also comes with a new timing chain.

heard a rumor over on the aftermarket products board that there is a mistake on the summit site and that the heads are actually price for a pair for $1005.99 anyone interested in being a giunea pig?
i am going to call summit back about them. i am EXTREMELY interested if this is the case. not so much for the current motor(although they will work great on it), but for the one that i may be building....shhh...

just got off the phone with summit, there infact was a typographical error on the site. $1005.99 is for the set! woohoo! aluminum aftermarket heads, here i come! i am going to call trickflow tomorrow and get more specifics. we might have just had a breakthrough! anyone willing to donate to the "making matt's 305 fast" fund, just let me know!

As much as I like the idea of Aluminum heads on a 305, those Cast Iron Torquers will make more power than the aluminum heads will. Iron retains heat better, and doesn't expand as much as aluminum. So a 10:1 compression motor with Iron heads is equivalent to about 9.1:1 with Aluminum heads. Better off sticking with the Torquers.

The circle track guys have had 45-58 cc heads for about 20 years. You can get a set of Pro-topline iron lighting's or aluminum lightings for about 850 or 1400 respectivly, and they out flow the trickflows.

ah yes, but they have bigger valves that won't fit our little bores. already checked into those.

doh....I should have thought of that, never mind. From What I've heard you can run the bigger valves with a smaller cam, but shrouding can be a problem, but thats the main problem with the 305, it's just hard to get air into the small bores. Thats why the ford 5.0 can make some pretty good power once you ditch their crappy heads, they have 4" bores like a 350.
