Description: The heads are a set of 081 heads I'm going to hopefully port (if i can get hold of a grinder) and get a full valve job on. The cam is a ZZ4 cam with matching rockers, springs and retainers all out of a GM Fastburn 385. Stuff is like new and got great deals on all of the parts. Project starts in May.

Are you ging to have larger valves put in the heads? Did you have the valve guides cut down or screw in studs put in to make life with that cam easier? Your project looks awesome. I am starting mine soon as well but it won't be as crazy as yours

Yeah Shifty I think i'm going to go with 30* back-cut 1.94 intake valves and just a valve job on the 1.5 exhausts. I was going to pin the studs but it turns out the labor cost is the same to pin or to install screw-ins, so maybe I'll just get screw ins. I'm also going to have the machine shop cut the guides down, and maybe even just install the springs.
I was going to go with a bigger cam but i found all this stuff (except the heads: got them free) as a package deal and I couldn't pass it up.

Awesome man! Keep us updated with every step. When my GTO comes in I will modding the Camaro exclusively. So, keep us updated so we can learn from your experiences.

Yeah I'll definitely keep all you guys up to date. I also have that Holley 670 on there with BBC GM injectors.
Shifty, the local thirdgen guys around here are renting out a dragstrip June 11th, so I'll definitely be there then. Not sure though if I'll have everything done by then or not. I'll get track times though, no worries. The PROMinator will help me out a lot with tuning it up too. Judging by Dewey's track times with stock heads, I'm hoping maybe I could bust into 13's with perfect conditions.

if you are changing the valves anyway, I would drop the coin on manley race-flo valves. The undercut stem design gives you a few more cfm. They aren't too terrible in price either. One piece stainless, good buy for the money.

US 41 Ronny. You should come down and check it out. We get the track all day for $50.
jwscab, do you have experience with those manley valves? I haven't put much thought into valves yet, maybe i'll look into them.

i put a set in a 454 awhile back, since it had the crappy 2.065" valves instead of 2.19"s. it was a cheap(er) temporary rebuild, so rather than cut the heads bigger I used the undercut manleys. worked great, they are quality. never had them flowed or anything, but they improve low lift numbers pretty nicely. Never got around to using a better set of heads, and that car could move out as it sat.

Ronny: It's in Morocco, Indiana. It would be cool if any of you guys nearby could make it out there, it was a lot of fun last year, and we got as many runs as you could possibly want. Here's the thread: https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=276986
jwscab: Thanks for the tip on the valves, I'll check them out.
I figure I can get away with dropping a little money on valves since all this stuff only cost me 120 bucks.
